It's a tried and tested formula for feminist writers.

Humblebrag about some area of your life where you're treated like a princess, and admit that you kind of like it.
Blame it on childhood conditioning by the patriarchy, ie your daddy treated you as a princess.
Talk about the time you made some token effort at equality, like reaching very slowly for your purse when the bill came, but that your gesture was rebuffed by your boyfriend with his fragile male ego.
Vow that in future, you'll allow your boyfriend to continue to treat you as a princess when that suits you, but you'll send out a firm feminist message by reacting to his kindness without any sense of grace or obligation to reciprocate.

I can't take seriously an article that calls flower-cutting environmentally irresponsible. Of all the things to nitpick about environmental consciousness...
