From the article: "spokesman Brian Fallon said. “ .. Those who invoked it over the years did so in good faith in the context of discussing the scourge of domestic violence.”

Fallon should have added "for women only". The reality is that the USDOJ appears to be consistently allowing its contracting State Coalitions Against Domestic Violence to shamelessly discriminate against men, boys, and their children who are victims of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault, and all requests to stop these illegal activities have met with zero actions and an ometa-style silence.

One such contractor was quoted as saying:

"Yes, we have had a few men come to the clinic - not many, but they do happen from time to time. But we've made sure that every time a man comes to us claiming DV, that we assess them far more carefully and thoroughly than we do when a woman comes in so we can ascertain the validity of their claim. In every single case, we've been able to discover that the violence they've experienced from their wife (which is never severe) was only in retaliation to something they [the man] had done in the first place. So then we have to explain to them that they have no right to complain about something that they've brought upon themselves, and send them away."

Given their omerta-style silence and complete inaction, while the taxpayer dollars continue to flow towards people who appear to rape boys, discriminate against male victims of rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence victims, and green light gross civil rights violations for fathers that inevitably lead to horrific child abuse, so far I'm not impressed.

(Note: The Fact Checker did not exist in 2009.) But regular readers know that we generally do not go far back in time to award Pinocchios, especially if the offending sentence has not been recently repeated.

The Justice Department should have been quicker to fix its Web site. But, given that officials have conceded the factoid is not valid, and plan to make that clear on Justice’s Web site, we see no reason to award Pinocchios at this time. There’s certainly a lesson here: When a fact sounds too startling to be true, always go back to the original source. Secondary sources can sometimes lead you astray.
