First off, a good friend of mine is openly gay. He is very effeminate and has frequented gay bars since he was 18. I tagged along with him one night, just for a laugh, and I was horriied by the amount of sexual harassment from both other men, and middle-aged women hanging around he went through(a random man forcing him against the wall. Women grabbing his butt and groin) and I was seriously shocked and said "You need to report this" but he just laughed and said it would never do anything due to the fact no police officer would take it seriously, and the fact this is simply part of being a "Twink" in this lifestyle.

It was definately not the laugh I was expecting and I found the night quite terrifying, as although most of the people were very nice, there was a group of very aggressive hands-on men and a small separate group of older women that were clearly there only to harass and grope the younger guys(and let me tell you, some of these younger guys really don't look like they could defend themselves against the older women there, let alone an sexually aggressive man). The bouncers did nothing though, and it made me realise something. Men are still viciously stigmatised against when it comes to sexual assault. If a man reports getting touched up against his will in a gay club by either a man or a woman, he is deemed a "pervert", the cops laugh it off once he leaves, and that's it. It also got me really worried for my friend, and got me thinking, what happens if a man there wants to take it one step further? My friend is 5'6" and about 55kgs. What's he going to do if a bigger guy does get more aggressive and doesn't take no for an answer? Even here in a progressive country like Australia, cops just aren't going to take it very seriously. "Raped in a gay club?". I can just see the cops already shutting the case down there inside their heads. What about a group of rowdy women that take it one step further? I'm ranting a bit, but it scares me to think how many young men have been raped/sexually assaulted and just moved on, because of that stigma.

Just really needed to unload this as I am still shook up from it all.
