She's not completely ignorant or completely wrong for that matter. The complaint was about cat calls and you proceeded to defend your checking a woman out, which are two different things.

My opinion on the matter is that if you dress or look a certain way, at some point you can start to predict how different kinds of people will treat you or what they'll say to you. If you don't like what they say or do, you have two options: tell them to fuck off and why, shut up and deal with it, or change how you look and hope it changes their behavior. My 12 year old daughter and I just had this discussion and what I told her was that no matter how you look, someone is going to say something to you about it. You can't control what they do, only what you do.

You literally said that she should feel flattered that the cat-callers noticed her beauty. Which is wrong for a lot of reasons but mostly because cat-callers don't necessarily target beautiful women. Feeling flattered would be silly. The part you were right about is that she shouldn't see herself as a victim for a relatively benign annoyance.

You can't tell other people how to feel, though.

Ignoring that downward spiral, you should realize that there is a respectful way to admire someones beauty and a disrespectful way. Even if the sentiment is "I find you attractive" it can be done disrespectfully and cause feelings if disgust, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Maybe I didn't see it, but where did the word feminist come up? Not every woman you get in an argument with is a feminist.
