Is there something I'm missing about the wording? It seems like a fairly neutral statement to me.

To assume that "the best interests of the child" means favoring the mother seems fairly jaded. Don't most problems of this sort arise from personal biases of the people making these decisions (e.g. judges, jurors), and not necessarily from the law as written?

For example, compare to Michigan law, which says in part:

"...It is presumed to be in the best interests of a child for the child to have a strong relationship with both of his or her parents..." MCL 722.27a

I don't trust it. The UN has never done anything positive in it's existence. Always some ulterior motive to fuck people over.
