Let's have accurate Stats Please.

I have heard a lot of garbage thrown around:

  • 90/10 (meh)
  • men twice as likely to die from work related... WHAT?

Currently, according to USA's Department of Labor the work related deaths are 92% men to 8% Women (2011) for the last 3 years with a trend decrease in men and likewise an increase in women. This fits from my prior research where there was a huge rise in concern in Academia as women broke the 5% margin and research found it was because men had become more unemployed from the huge economic recession (2008 with a 95/5 percent ratio).

Please also note, these stats do not seem to cover military service as one would think. For 2011 they list 54 fatal injuries under military with a notation that reads:

Includes fatal injuries to persons identified as resident armed forces regardless of individual occupation listed

Anyone care to shine a light on this particular? With Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. going on I know this number isn't including combat and sincerely doubt any activities off of "civilian" soil (e.g., boot camp). Likewise, with the Department of Defense being the largest employer of the world and appearing to be omitted you can see my concern how this would skew the statistics.

From prior research the death ratio to injury was practical identical 95/5. So, I'm assuming that is practically the same 92/8, but I could not find any new (any help here would be great to confirm).

Also, anyone near marketing/business research library? It would be interesting to see what market shares women's "safety work boots" have compared to men's and if that is a good indicator for trends.

Plenty of graphs and demonstrate how much the decrease in injuries correlate with decline in economy, still PDF (1992-2011)!
