I think something that is not talked about enough in the public is Muscle Dysmorphia. It is common for men, and teenagers, to instead of deal with any sort of emotional problem they are having such as rejection or bullying, to externalise it in the form of excersize. We hear it all the time of Reddit: "Oh she dumped you? Delete facebook and hit the gym bro and get ripped!". Walking into a gym you'll always see at least one guy who has become so out of proportion by emptying his sorrows into lifting.

Now I'm a big advocater of healthy lifestyles and excersize, but I think it is understated in our community that an obsession with gaining muscle is not healthy but there is zero awareness about this. Burying your woes in gains can lead to steroid abuse and the community of bodybuilders in real life and on the internet are enabling it by hating on anyone that doesn't fit the standard.

We are turning into a society of people who hate our natural body image and worship those who have managed to centre their lifestyles around making their bodies defined. Men, this is our anorexia. This is what we're teaching boys, that the way they look regularly is not right. That if we get beaten up or rejected, it was because we weren't big and masculine enough. This kind of message is completely supported by the suppliment distributors and retailers who just want you to consume as much of their expensive product as you can.

Please, comment if you feel uncomfortable with how society portrays men, if you have any experience with these types of issues or have anything to add to this discussion.
