It's an online game. You will get shit because you are male, female, gay, straight, fat, thin, old, young, black, white, human, animal, god, mortal...

No item on that list is being singled out. Everyone gets it just as bad as everyone else, especially at first. EVERYONE.

In my opinion that isn't even a bad thing. It levels the playing field. Everyone is broken down to nothing and starts from scratch. It communicates to newcomers that none of that matters in the game. You will receive no special treatment as a result of any of it. The only thing that matters is how good you are at the game - and that's it.

It is a bit of a fucked up way to achieve that, but it works well. Well, until you get some nut who believes the world is out to get them and takes it as proof of all their beliefs...

Would love to get opinions here.

While I agree that an endless stream of creepy messages and friends invites is annoying, I feel like I get tons of random friend requests from people who suck and want to play with someone better that I have to ignore. I also feel like I put up with plenty of verbal and written abuse on the internet.

Therefore it seems silly to say that there is some imaginary "line in the sand" where good old fashioned shit-talking turns into hate speech that is truly reflective of a societies feelings towards some sub-group like women.

Of course a feminist showed up to report me to "Shit Reddit Says" and commented that there would be a typical "women bashing circle jerk" but I legitimately don't feel any hatred towards women. Just a general feeling that if I put up with lots of annoying a-holes in online games it makes sense to me that women would have to also. It's not exceptional...what's exceptional is that women think they should somehow be exempt from the treatment.

Online gaming is an equal opportunity free for all. If you cannot take shit talk, use the goddamn mute features provided for you by every single goddamn game or find people to play with on the subreddit for whatever your game of choice is and stick with them in an XBL party.

It's not inherent misogyny or some such crap. You being a girl is simply something else to insult. Tell us we have small dicks or something. If you complain about the trash talk, we know we're getting to you and will ramp it up. It's basically amateur grade psychological warfare.

If you're not on my team, you're a target for shit talk. Get used to it.

Back when I was playing mmos we didn't have voip yet so when we finally did I found out the 3 dudes that endlessly trash talked the crappy players were women...I don't get how so many woman just go with the flow and end up great players then you have players that bitch and whine when they don't get their way.

I will say the funniest moment playing with those woman was when a new girl tried to use her gender to get items just to be told that wouldn't be fair to all the other women in the group...she really thought she was the only woman playing.

Maybe its worse now but most of the time the woman I played with just adapted to the game instead of demanding the game change to suit them.
