If they check the bag and they don't find a weapon, recording equipment, or outside food or beverages, why should he have to leave it in the car? Once again, the double standards leave my mouth agape.

At the theater I work at, we check every single bag, man, woman, grandma, child. I really don't expect to find anything, but we check just in case. I usually work door and am in charge of bag-checks, so it's MR approved according to me.

You know, I have this weird idea - and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but here goes: Doesn't being a shooter usually require having some sort of firearm or other projectile weapon, which they knew he didn't after seeing the bag?

To be fair, a woman with a bag is carrying a purse. The aurora shooting is still fresh in my memory.

I am not saying it isn't sexist. I think I is very sexist.

I am not saying it isn't wrong. I think it's very wrong.

I am just trying to point out where the motivation for this comes from. Most behavior like this comes subconsciously. We are fighting an awful lot of ingrained culture here. The trick is going to be to point out the absurdity in the going culture and get people to think about double standards and equal rights before they have knee jerk reactions like this. It's going to be an uphill battle, but we can do it.

And any one of those women could have had three guns in her purse as a bomb in her compact. I've seen the purses that women use. They can hold an infinite number of things.

But the guy still wasnt allowed in after they searched his bag?!

I would have caused a scene and refused to take my bag to the car.

Then I would have made sure they knew that they were discriminating against me based on gender since they were not refusing to allow women inside with bags.

It would have escalated rather quickly and they would have either relented or called the police. When the police arrived I would have made sure it was noted in the report that I was being singled out by gender so that I had evidence when I decided to sue them for discrimination.

Sometimes you have to call out places on their bullshit and not give in, otherwise they will never correct the problem.

Maybe he should have said "It's my purse."

I am fine with checking bags, though it is obviously immoral, and quite stupid, to check only men's but not women's bags.

But any theater that does not allow someone to come in with a bag, even after it has been checked to confirm it does not have weapons or outside food, should be shut down. It should be illegal for most (I would say all, but there may be some with valid reasons) businesses to forbid people to bring in bags.
