Funny how they don't ask "has the father of that child consented to the baby being placed in the baby box?" when it's mothers leaving them.

What I want to know is, if a woman leaves a baby in the box, isn't that a violation of the fathers rights? Nobody seems to give a damn about his rights to raise his child.

I'm not against these boxes, I think it's important that desperate parents have a final resort like this, somewhere that the baby can be safe and cared for immediately. I just don't like the tone of the article.

Kind of a powerful statement really. At the top of the pyramid are women. They can always jump off and do whatever they want, but men carry the entire pyramid. They're at the bottom. They can't just walk away. The entire thing will crumble if they do. That's how I interpret those critics.

Once again, we're hit with the same thinly disguised sentiment; that it's acceptable for women to be conflicted about becoming parents, but it's not equally accessible for men to feel the same; that it's acceptable for the mother to potentially keep the father out of her decisions for their child when that child is under her care, but it is not acceptable for a man to do the same.

The article's mention of critics shows that misandrists are willing to leave babies in dangerous and potentially life-threatening circumstances (and if you don't believe me do a google search for "dumpster baby cases") rather than afford men the same benefit of doubt that is afforded to women; instead, they must assume that any man who might possibly place a baby in the care of qualified medical personnel must be doing so for nefarious and selfish reasons.

Why am I not surprised?

I'm all in on this one.

All in.

I especially like that there is a period during which the mother can return.

I don't know what kind of time it is, but I think it should be at least 6 months.

But really - what is at issue here?

At the point at which the woman is walking that path to deposit the baby, all has been said and done, or not.

If it's gotten to this stage without the father's say, the father has either absconded, OR is being played.

Whether it's right that the father is being played is the same issue as the woman having an abortion without his consent.

Those issues stand and revolve.

As a man, those boxes represent for me, an attempt to wrangle away from a bad situation, some life.

This is good.

And I wouldn't be surprised if a big majority of the 'people behind the boxes', are male.

In terms of the UNs position here, they are still at the point that women shouldn't be giving their babies away.

They will continue to shiver in that space giving leaflets away.
