This is another insane story of a Canadian getting a light sentence for killing their children during a bitter divorce and custody battle.

And of course, the blame always goes towards booze/drugs/depression. This should never be an excuse to kill one's children. If life sucks so badly, then give your kids to social services or a family member.

The fact that the judge finds reasonable doubt because of the defendant's lack of memory? Oh gee whiz, how convenient! Everyone knows what happened to those kids. They were killed by their parent instead of being protected.

Relevant information about how this woman was looking up ways to kill/die a month prior to killing her kids. Doesn't that show some premeditation? She never once thought to get her kids to a safe place before she offed herself? No, she wanted to them to come with her, according to a psychiatrist treating her. Such utter bullshit.

I don't buy the depression angle on this one. People with severe clinical depression often suffer from psycho-motor retardation - they can barely get up to make themselves food, do the laundry, care for themselves in basic ways. Add depressants such as alcohol and sleeping pills into the mix and it's unlikely that a severely depressed person would have the energy to murder two children.
