I'm not claiming that no one has ever heard a whisper they were not intended to hear ever, but what I am ready to claim is that there is a sufficiently intricate number of coincidences that need to be involved that it's perfectly plausible that no one has ever had their feelings hurt as a result of the "game" that the OP has played.

For such an event to happen, recall that first of all, the OP must find a person whose beauty is so remarkable, that he believes it warrants being pointed out to his wife. THEN, in addition to that happening, her appearance must be characteristically unique enough that not only is she seeing as beautiful to the OP, but she must simultaneously appear ugly to his wife. Note that it's not merely "Well, I suppose some might consider her to be pretty" but "Are you kidding me? She's ugly!". And THEN, the wife must consider for the person in question to be sufficiently far away enough that she would think it's safe to vocally express disagreement, as opposed to waiting until they're in some isolated location. AND THEN, the person in question must be surprisingly perceptive, such that the wife miss-estimated the safety with which to make her comments, and she does in fact hear the comment being made.

How often do all each of these events happen individually, and how often would they need to happen so that they could all happen at the same time, leading to someone actually feeling insulted?

FWIW, I've actually played a similar game, and I can give you some statistics related to my experiences. The answer is that it has NEVER happened that I said a girl was pretty, and my partner outright disagreed and said she was ugly while that person was anywhere near earshot. The only times when I said a girl was pretty and my partner disagreed was when I was pointing out a girl in a magazine or in television, and the actual girl in person probably wasn't even in the same country as the one where my partner and I were when we made those comments.

Don't go out into a public setting where the people you are talking about can see and hear you. It will hurt their feelings. No one likes to hear if someone thinks they're ugly, or being compared looks wise to the person sitting next to them. It's just distasteful to make a game out of this.

But nobody is doing that. I don't know why you keep bringing that up. It's not efficient for a man to even waste his erotic energy and eyesight looking at, talking about, or thinking about substandard girls. So the vast majority of us don't bother. You should develop more self-esteem. That way you won't feel the need to wag your finger about what others say about.. others. You can't control what other people do or how other people will be. Only thing you can control is your reaction to them. That takes self-esteem.
