I am an MRA (and I hope this isn't considered trolling because isn't Reddit in a way supposed to be about mutual communication exchanges of people from different backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures?) and I've been in a relationship with a woman who continually returned to abusive boyfriends (ultimately why I dumped her). I'm sure this woman had other problems with insecurity and was sexually unhealthy. Often these women return to these men because, in a way, they are attracted to and emotionally attached to the chaos and the idea of dating someone who is misunderstood. In my experience, every woman I've personally known who dates these abusive boyfriends is emotionally unstable and requires a relationship to feel whole (an unhealthy characteristic to ANY person, not women exclusively) and is also a child in terms of their reason ability. Everyone of them reverse justified their addiction to the emotional highs of the intense dramatic atmosphere these kinds of men create, suggesting that the world was wrong and misunderstood their partner. This high intensity relationship is found often with men who feel inclined to prove their love through tough guying other men and aggressiveness (not a characteristic of all men for the love of God), and in turn women who desire and enjoy this constant validation (unhealthy) chase these men. The answer is not blaming men nor separating from men, but rather producing a society in which PEOPLE in general are more emotionally stable. It pains me to hear of anyone getting acquitted of a murder entirely where clearly they did it. Abused or not she put herself and her child in a vulnerable position repeatedly; is this not unfair to the child and does she not bear some responsibility for putting herself in this position? If I run across a highway for a thrill knowing that it's dangerous and get hit by a drunk driver, at least some of that responsibility should be on me for running across the highway.

At the very least she should be required to take parenting classes, be on house arrest for a year, be on probation for 3, require emotional counselling, and observed for future tendencies. Any more domestic disputes in her future and her kid should be taken from her for the child's safety, and go to someone who won't endanger them. If you really want to argue that she isn't guilty of murder I won't debate that on this board, but killing somebody should have heavy consequences regardless of the circumstances. IMO

Spoken so eloquently-- and yet it's nothing more than pretty victim blaming, Evo psych bullshit and tons of horrid sexism spoken in the most polite term possible. And of course none of this makes your movement seem reasonable.

I'm gonna be real with you. This? This is something I have heard time and time again and it is the most vile vitriol I've ever heard. I'm actually going to thank you for not frothing at the slash like the other fucks, but I am going to say one thing: Seriously? You did nothing more than a whole bunch of being an abuse apologist and somehow still managing to blame the person with the vagina for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and you probably think thats alright and correct.

And you go several steps further into the darkness by suggesting someone who has been abused should be bereaved of their children? In this case you may be right, but I saying "To someone who wont endanger them" suggests that this might be the case in your mind for all victims of abuse. I hope I am wrong.

It's shit like this, MRAs. Aside from all the confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance and everything else, of course.

I didn't blame the person with the vagina for anything and everything...I clearly said that both have problems and the solution is in both people dealing with their insecurities. You seem to take delight in accusing others of the very things that you are guilty of; you seem intent on blaming ANYTHING and EVERYTHING on the person with the PENIS. You critique my argument yet seem to offer no defense to this critique beyond being aggressive about it. Just because you use harsh terms like vile vitriol and horrid sexism doesn't make your argument right; it may make it emotionally moving and may upset some people to the point of indefeasible fear, but I really believe what I'm saying so I won't back down unless you present an actual argument that makes sense to me.

I propose a scenario in which both people are responsible, she definitively pursued this abuser repeatedly, and I know there are many challenges to breaking free of abusers (personally) but ultimately as an adult our actions are our own responsibility. Defending a murderer based on the fact that they were abused is dangerous ideology; where does the blame start if we forgive everything based on the challenges within ones own life? I'm sure terrorists who blow themselves up have horrible fear-striking upbringings with perverted sexual delusions force fed to them from birth, yet I still hold them responsible for killing innocent women and children. A lot of things in life are hard but if you've made the adult to decision to have children (which as a woman is, according to your movement her choice) she must also make the choice to be mature and responsible for her children and returning to an abuser was, for whatever reasons (dissatisfaction with emotional return from the rest of society?) being selfish to satisfy her own emotional needs and not responsible for her children.

Obviously the man had clear problems with control and violence and was in no position to be in a relationship or be around children. He was a violent offender whose actions cannot be dismissed either, but to suggest that there weren't obvious indications leading up to this murder that this relationship and this man were a bad idea is to ignore the truth. Many indications of problems lead up to robberies, gun fights, rapes, etc. These problems run deep within society and while gender frustration and identity confusion heavily influence these sorts of problems, women do not have a monopoly on insecurity or oppression, and, just as men, are not perfect.

And, for the record, abuse victims may not be fit to raise children. If abuse can make you incompetent to stand trial or function than, regrettably, it does make you unfit to raise children. If I have an anger problem because my father controlled me as a boy and I never felt loved, and that causes me to lash out at people, in spite of my abuse I am unfit to raise children. A sad story does not justify the perpetuation of abuse.
