The Campus Sex Kabuki Dance: Colleges teach women to fear men, then invite the men to move in with the women

My university sent an email out to every student that said this:

CRIME ALERT

A 20 year old woman reported being followed by an unidentified man wearing a dark hoodie at approx. 2am last night along the so-and-so river trail while returning to such-and-such dormitory. She was not physically provoked.

WTF. The dude was probably just walking back to his dorm too!

I think there's plenty of cajoling for sex going on in dorm rooms right now. Only difference being, the same-gender assigned roommate is also being inconvenienced by it. Since young, inexperienced people are going to be at-risk for unpleasant sexual encounters anyhow, we might as well remove the third party.

Another point - singe opposite-gender roommates were not allowed in college, I wound up dealing a lot with my roommate's predatory boyfriend. It was a tit-for-tat issue - in order for her to accommodate MY sex life, I had to let a man into my personal space who otherwise would never have even seen my bed or my toiletries, let alone sat on the former and pawed through the latter. I really hope that mixed-gender housing becomes a standard option at colleges.
