The war on drugs is a bigger men's issue. What percentage of drug arrests are men? how many custody cases have been decided by a fathers marijuana arrest from 10 years before he had children?

Alcohol prohibition was originally supported by crusading women with nothing better to do.

Honestly I'm too lazy to cite this, but I recall female drinkers have been on the rise in the last decade or so, dramatically increasing toward the rate of males. Considering the nature of women at bars (getting bum fucking wasted), I have a feeling these numbers are either old, generous, or simply don't have a good criteria of judging it.

Just my 2 cents about it. If the article is completely true, I'm sure females are catching up very quickly anyway.

The post fails to define "alcoholism". From Wikipedia:

It is medically considered a disease, specifically a neurological disorder, and in medicine several other terms are used, specifically "alcohol abuse" and "alcohol dependence" which have more specific definitions.[1] In 1979 an expert World Health Organisation committee discouraged the use of "alcoholism" in medicine, preferring the category of "alcohol dependence syndrome"

Alcoholism is called a "dual disease" since it includes both mental and physical components.[6] The biological mechanisms that *cause** alcoholism are not well understood. Social environment, stress,[7] mental health, family history, age, ethnic group, and gender all influence the risk for the condition*

Thombs (1999) states according to behavioural sciences alcoholism is described as a “maladaptive behaviour”. He explains *this must not be confused with “misbehaviour”. Behavioural scientists explain that addicts have a behaviour pattern, which may lead to destructive consequences for themselves, their families and society. **This does not label addicts as bad or irresponsible.[18] Compared with men, women are more sensitive to alcohol's harmful physical, cerebral, and mental effects.[19][20]*

That is, alcoholism is not the result of misbehaviour, but a disease itself. While there are risk factors (statistically speaking), it's not know how they work. I mean age, gender and ethnic group could be biological or environmental factors. Family history correlation also could be genetic or environmental.

Sarstan is right:

Alcoholism has a higher prevalence among men, though in recent decades, the proportion of female alcoholics has increased.[20]

In Spain at least there has been also a strong decrease in the starting age of heavy consumption.

TL;DR: Alcoholism is a complex disease, not the result of misbehaviour

As someone who had to live with an alcoholic mother all my life, and now has to deal with an alcoholic girlfriend's mother, I can't pick my jaw up off the floor.
