While I'm glad that the parents aren't circumcising, I don't like the argument that it's because she wants the child to identify with the father. That same non-argument is used all too often by parents choosing to circumcise so the baby looks like the father.

This is a decision that seems to be harder for parents of our generation to make. My husband and I decided that we would circumcise our boys. In my experience, most boys (and in fact, most children) are not the cleanest of creatures. You can teach them to bathe, but unless you are going to supervise their showers for the first ten or so years, you really have very little hope of them all paying close attention to detail.

Wow. This comment really cuts right to the root of it, doesn't it?

We need to circumcise boys because they are dirty little creatures.

Don't snip. I am glad to see circ rates going down. If you are still not sure watch one of the videos on U-tube that shows an actual baby being circumcised.

.. is cleaning it really that big of a deal for parents to teach their kids. I have never gotten an infection or had any hygiene problems with mine.
