Why is Clare's Law not Clare and Clive's Law?

So a grown woman is given protection but I have a young son who would not be entitled to protection.If I had a daughter would she be offered protection or will my ex be entitled to vet any future partners of mine on his behalf.Even if I did believe this bullshit about women being harmless what about gay men?

Is the article badly written, or is it really only for women to find out about men? If it's anyone to find out about anyone - gender doesn't come in to it - then I'd object less.

However there is a problem with it and the justice system. The idea is that you commit a crime, and then "do your time" (which may involve probation), if you cannot have a clean sheet afterwards then it makes a significant difference.

I would say that being added to a domestic violence register, similar to the sex offenders register would be a better solution. Otherwise a couple who get into a fight and commit breach of the peace may find themselves tagged as violent for the rest of their lives - in the same way that someone taking a piss in the street after a night on the drink may see themselves tagged as sex offenders.

Edit : I should also add that I'm uncomfortable with it because it promotes the fear culture that we seem to be sinking into, where everybody has to be afraid of everybody else. I don't know if Americans have experienced it to the same degree us Brits have, but over here, particularly 5 or so years ago (parodied so well by Chris Morris) it got ridiculous with laws and initiatives doing little good, but spreading the culture of fear.

Why does this need to be a law at all? Anyone can go to their local court house and get a rap sheet on anyone for (I think it's) around 50 bucks.
