I've been lurking for a while and haven't seen anything about this here, though it's a widely acknowledged problem.

Circumcision and paternity rights are both popular topics here, but I have not seen this represented, though I'd share.

On a side note, do you (at any level) think it's any "more ok" for a girl to endure this sort of lifestyle than it is for a boy? I'm not trying to troll, I've actually heard that put forth as an argument, and... while I hope it's not a widely held one, I've never really heard address in the open.

Personally, I think it's unimaginably awful for any human being, and we should be working to protect all the children, rather than focusing on EITHER just the girls or just the boys. The west's effort to impose it's own gender ideas on foreign cultures has just made matters worse in a lot of ways, including misdirecting attention and resources as it has with this issue, resulting in unfortunate neglect.

Best.

Edit: My bad, it HAS been mentioned! I've just been lurking for the past week or so and hadn't seen anything casually but saw lots of stuff on circumcision and thought I'd share. I'm glad it's had more attention than I was aware of, but I think it's still woefully unacknowledged in the mainstream media.
