This was recently mentioned in Inside Higher Ed and at The Fire (both are websites on academia http://thefire.org/article/13130.html), but I haven't seen mainstream coverage. If you see mainstream coverage, please post links.

Wow, this Shane Reil is an asshole of massive proportions. He was willing to either throw a person he believed to be innocent under the bus for personal gain or he was willing extort the family of a girl he believed to be a rape victim, and undermine a verdict that considered to be legit to improve his personal carreer options. No matter what he actually believed what happened, this guy is definitly a low-life scumbag. The law firm isn't any better - if this case was legit, they completely sabotaged it for a fee that amounts to peanuts to them, if it wasn't, they fucked their own client over massively.

Whoever the victim was (and their is really no evidence to call it either way), he/she was massively wronged by a system that is implemented by people too arrogant to see that these cases go beyond their own capabilities and by people who try to cash in on other people's misery. It's a good thing that this gets some coverage, because that's a system that is neither good for rape victims nor for those innocently accused, while it helps out both rapist and false accusers by producing verdicts that are highly questionable.

Unfortunately, only the wealthy can do this with a reasonable chance of success. I would encourage young men without the financial resources and who have hit rock bottom to look into figuring out how to represent themselves, even if you do not win, you will have done a great service to the MRM by costing the University who has wronged you thousands of dollars in legal counsel fees just by filing an injunction.

That's a disbarment waiting to happen. There's no way they wouldn't know they had a fucking Federal case for the University.
