Well I wont even start about the website this article is from.

I have a penis and I agree that there is indeed a glass ceiling. This most likely comes from the fucked up foundations of our glorious civilization and dumbfuck religious beliefs.

I think its is extremely fucked up that the founders of this subreddit believe that "men's" rights are somehow in jeopardy because of feminism. Its fucking culture guys and its great, we should embrace it. Why the fuck are you so scared of progress?

I probably hate everyone fucking one of you. Why? Because you are total douchebags. Women have been treated so horribly for so long and you start pissing your pants because they organize and discuss and live? Go shoot yourself in the head because its not going to stop.

Dont be surprised when other like minded men start calling you out for your bullshit (i am sure it happens already though huh). At University I remember dumbfuck men seeing that there is a womens centre and being pissed off as if women having their own space is so offensive to men.. I think its pretty clear the world we live in is essentially a mans world. I hope it burns.

Anyways... Great article, top notch stuff. I bet you scumbags would call it "peer reviewed"...

I'm going to do my Johnny Carson routine and guess three things this article says (all from just the headline):

There's no wage gap, because it can all be accounted for because off individual choices
Women are evil and will go after men for money and status, and are always willing to leave their current partner for a wealthier/ "more alpha" one.
There are so many other areas where women benefit from societally-imposed standards that they shouldn't bitch.

And... Survey says...

So, women make different choices than men (or perhaps more accurately, a wife and husband make choices together when their kids come along), such that women typically prioritize family and men typically prioritize career advancement. Over the course of a lifetime, women typically earn less than men, and typically put more hours into the care of children and elders than do men.

Is this a problem? After all, if the money is getting earned and the caregiving work is getting done, why is it any of society's business how the labor is being divided in individual households?

I think it's a problem and here's why:

I think there's significant social pressure to divide the labor along traditional lines, even when the two people involved (their personalities, their skillsets, their economic and geographic situations) are best suited to another kind of division. Women who purse high-powered careers are shamed, and men who choose to SAH or work a more flexible job are shamed - not just a few snide remarks, but a lifelong social cost that negatively affects their health and happiness. Our culture is not yet neutral on this subject, so I think it makes sense for our government's policies to be not-neutral.
In many cases, the household is no longer a permanent unit. Extreme specialization into "breadwinner" and "caregiver" roles is, IMHO, a very efficient way to run a household when you've got one high-earning and career-minded spouse, but it's a nasty mess when marriages fail. Again, government policies that encourage less specialization, i.e. keep more women from dropping out of the workforce and enable more men to take time off for caregiving, are justified.

We're not all CEO material. Most people work to earn a paycheck, period. I think our society would be more stable, and more equal, if we worked to eliminate the gendered element of SAH/WOH choices. Eliminating the wage gap and the glass ceiling might be side effects of social policies that encouraged different divisions of labor, but the main POINT, as I see it, would be more happiness for regular people. Being solely responsible for for EITHER breadwinning OR caregiving is a lot of pressure and a lot of hours spent doing the samedamnthing day in and day out. We can do better for ourselves than the system we have now.
