I think the "patriarchy" in this one is less of an institution and more of a mindset. The concept of masculinity for a thug boyfriend which was ridiculous/extreme/outdated to a degree is what motivated this violence, and may very well be what radical feminists think of as "patriarchy".

There were toxic concepts of masculinity in play here, but the whole ordeal is the product of overall violent people, not any sort of institution.
