Well there's your problem! And the correct term is "alleged victim", else you end up violating the premise of innocent until proven guilty once you have a suspect.

GReat find. Amazing how language controls thought. Even after we all know she was not a victim of sexual assualt, the officer excuses his absence of mind by.saying that, as she was a victim of sexual assault, he had no choice.but.to.believe.her.story. Wow.

"Innocent until proven guilty" didn't arise from a vacuum. It arose because the opposite was being widely abused.

Victims need support of course, but enough false claims happen that they don't need unconditional support either. Help the person but don't corrupt the law.
