Like I said, "That study you reference to doesn't say anything about male victims of sexual assault and you have no idea if it would help him or not."

Sexual assault victims are victims. When we are aware that someone was a victim, we hold them less responsible for their actions, even if the victimization has nothing to do with the actions in question. This shows that it is the sort of thing that could aid him politically.

You think anyone can call themselves a victim, in any circumstance?

I know that, if you're made aware of the victimhood prior to the transgression you are less likely to be held accountable/punished.

Sometimes it wont help and sometimes it will actually backfire.

Yes, that's also a possibility. If this were a well-established political tactic, every politician would be sharing stories of their victimization and we'd already be desensitized to it...but this research is new, it came out right before he revealed that he was a victim.

I'm not saying he did it to score political points...I'm just saying it's entirely possible he did it for that reason. It could also just be timed coincidentally...one of those strange synchronicities where, in the week of his interview, journalists started reporting on this study, but he and his people totally never read anything about it and, without having been influenced by it, decided it would be the right time to come forward. We don't know, so we should remain skeptical until we do...especially considering he refused to name the person who did it, or to pursue anything other than a vague allegation that someone abused him.

If it's true, then I hope he takes them down...I hope he fucking destroys them and I'll be cheering him on. But politicians are fucking liars and will exploit anything they can to get ahead. So I'm skeptical and I'll remain skeptical until there's something more concrete.
