Eh. It says he repeatedly hit and kicked her. Even if she started it by spitting, that's more than excessive. So yes, he deserves some time in jail. Six months for beating someone who didn't even touch you isn't unfair. Had he spat back at her, or only hit her once, I'd be upset, but. Never exceed the violence someone has dished to you.
