I could maybe see his Roman Empire claim if I ignore all the other factors behind its collapse. But it fell apart when he cites the collapse of Babylon, based on what he admits is scant evidence, and which turns to the bible as a source of reference.

I thought Rome collapsed because the communication technology of that day wasn't sophisticated enough to sustain authority throughout the total area held by the empire and they kept bankrupting themselves to wage more war, while simultaneously pissing off their outlying territories.

Also, Sparta was pretty progressive in terms of womens rights, especially compared to the rest of the Greek city-states, and they had a good run.
