We sometimes forget that first wave feminism went for a very long time (1850s to 1940s) and resembled later waves in many respects. For instance, one of the early anti-feminists was Eliza Linton. As early as the 1850s she criticised Lady Monson, a lesbian feminist, as an "uncompromising man-hater". In the 1860s Eliza Linton addressed the feminists of that era as "you of the emancipated who imitate while you profess to hate".
