FTA:
- Domestic purposes beneficiaries will be required to accept part-time work when their youngest child turns 6, or risk having their benefit halved.
- Widows on the widow's benefit caring for the same aged children will not face a work test.
- Neither will older women alone receiving the domestic purposes benefit.
- Men who have been widowed and are caring for children will have a work-test.
- Paula Bennett admits that parts of the welfare reforms breach the Bill of Rights Act.

So she admits to discriminate but fails to see what's wrong with it because it's just men she discriminates against. Shame on her !

I've been writing, furiously, to MPs on this issue. It's sexism of the highest order, and another barrier for single fathers. Personally, I believe a parent with a 6 year old child should be finding work, regardless of their sex. So I don't agree with widowed mothers being exempt.

EDIT: I would very much like to see a test case where the Bill of Rights Act is used to challenge this ridiculous piece of shit.

That is ridiculous. How is a job more necessary for a widower than a widow? What if the man has enough money to get on with, or marries a partner with a job and decides to be a stay-at-home dad? What about people who are trans or intersexed?

It's gender stereotyping, this idea that men having jobs is more important than women having jobs.

Hells bells... Some people will find discrimination as being fair and reasonable no matter what it is. I wonder how many people thought discrimination against blacks was fair and reasonable. I wonder how many Nazi's thought that discrimination against...well, pretty much everyone who wasn't Caucasian reasonable (yeah, yeah, I just Godwin'd this threat. Sue me.). That doesn't make it right.
