"My prejudice was that the ideal man is a woman in a man's body. And I learned, no, that's really not. There are a lot of women out there who really want a manly man, and they want his stoicism," she said. "Men are suffering. They have different problems than women have, but they don't have it better," she said. "They need our sympathy. They need our love, and maybe they need each other more than anything else. They need to be together." Ironically, Vincent said, it took experiencing life as a m…

since we are speaking about people earning less/more for the SAME job. No they're not. You can see their rationale here. The gender pay gap is influenced by a number of factors, including... women and men working in different industries and different jobs, with female-dominated industries and jobs attracting lower wages Well the employer should fire the one that doesn't do the work then, it doesn't apply. They do something even better: they pay the people less who produce less. Crazy concept in …

It's actually way more complicated that that. There would still be a gap, and that's because men work harder, more dangerous, more risky jobs. Men also tend to stay longer in the workforce and so have more experience. Also, men tend to negotiate more effectively - they take bigger risks in negotiation. Men are also more likely to move for a job, and switch jobs when one with higher pay but worse working conditions are presented.

I think he’s alluding to the fact that today, looking at someone the wrong way will see one labelled racist. In such an environment it merits little cause to care any longer.

Men who are raped, coerced, and tricked into fatherhood are still liable for child support. Can we at least agree that there should be some extenuating circumstances?

"Just don't have sex or get a lasting surgical procedure to make you sterile." If we applied this logic to women people like you would be up in arms. Applied to a man it's "just biology." We are supposed to be overcoming biological inequalities, not perpetuating them.

Ya but there is still a child in your second scenario. That child is only there because of the woman's choice. If she chooses to have a child she should be choosing to support it. Karen DeCrow, former President of the National Organization for women, framed this well: "Autonomous women making independent decisions about their lives should not expect men to finance their choice.”

That's exactly why he added "libtard". Karen is usually conservative. What we see here is a more rare version of the libtard Karen. Equally retarded, but fatter and more racist.

I can’t tell if this is like double sarcasm or if you just don’t understand the difference between adoption and foster care. There are 443,000 kids in the system in the US. Most of them have a pretty shitty life, even once they leave. It’s much harder to line up a baby. Everyone wants those. Well, in reality, there’s a pecking order. The black kids with crack addicted mothers and birth defects are right at the bottom. The white kids are virtually impossible to adopt as babies because near everyo…

However the term is currently utilised, it is a gendered and offensive term created in feminist theory to reinforce the notion that all males contribute towards a patriarchal system through negative behaviour. To illustrate the issue, I ask where feminism defines, "toxic femininity". Presumably femininity imbues its own negative behaviours, and yet you won't find the term anywhere. To even suggest such a term will invite criticisms of sexism. We should never paint men with broad brushstrokes, ju…

In other words, sexism does exist in the workplace. It's just that men are at a disadvantage. When an applicant's sex is removed from the equation, men do better.

You and I, we can handle eating different things from out partner. But a lot of people out there have these romantic ideals that they have to agree with every single thing their partner likes. No compromises. I think it's something most people grow out of. In this case, however, it sounds like she's vegan. Those people are religious about food. Don't even try and look at a piece of steak while in their presence. That level of preachy would get old really fast.

You need to sit down with him for an honest chat - which should be easy, you guys have a solid relationship - and ask him exactly what about your re-imagining he doesn't like. If he genuinely doesn't want you to be a better person then I think the solution here is obvious: ditch him. However I'm not sold that's what happening here. As I understand it, the agenda right now is awareness. We aren't given hundreds of millions of dollars and support at all levels of government. So we need to explain why we should be given material and political support. Examples like this shine a bright light on some of the inequalities in society which boys and men face.

It's happened or will happen to every man. Probably multiple times. Only time makes it better, but there are some rules you should stick to. Remove all doubt. Ask her over for dinner/movies. If she says no, she's not interested in you. That's your cue to move on. Delete her from facebook, and delete her from everything else, including her number. NEVER MESSAGE HER. I agree, but even at 3.8% of the population, that's still 86,000 active and reserve personnel in the US. More than enough to poke holes in the notion that people who could be attracted to each other should be segregated.

They're 10% of the population. A minority, but more than enough to invalidate your argument that people who could be attracted to each other should not serve together. I actually disagree with the premise as well. I think people who serve together - romantic or not - form strong emotional bonds, which serve to protect them in combat. Rape shouldn't be happening, period.

A video I stumbled on in which Moby talks about how sexist Robin Thicke's new video Blurred Lines [NSFW] is, while talking about how women are superior and men should be barred from politics. I found the way he positions his feelings as some kind of superior argument - all while repeatedly stating how he was raised by academics - very interesting. It seems it's perfectly acceptable for Moby, one of the best selling electronic music artists in the world, to treat men like second-class citizens - …

I always had a vague sense of what was right and wrong. I believed in equality, but I believed feminism had gender equality all sewn up. Then I found Reddit. While I acknowledge that online feminism is often regarded as somehow separate to "offline" feminism, I was shocked. These feminists were angry, bitter. They hated men. They didn't care how illogical and emotional their pleas were. As far as they were concerned, men were evil incarnate. It took me all of a month to unsubscribe from the femi…

So it still exists. And men are taller. Should we enact a plan to cut off the feet of men to make them the same height? Maybe some disparities don't need to change if they're not the result of discrimination? I agree that gender roles are harmful. That is the condition. It presents in various ways, but going after the symptoms is ridiculous, and as another user has pointed out, can only be used to imply that discrimination is occurring. Which, according to that CONSAD report, is likely not.

Small talk. Yeah I fucking hate it too. I guess what drives me is when she's cute and I'm interested in her. It gets me talking more. But maybe it's just practice? I didn't used to be good at it. I actually went overboard and I'm trying to slow down a bit. Just pretend to like it.

Okay, I used to be in the same boat. Unfortunately the solution isn't easy. You want to become interesting. So interesting that you always have something interesting to talk about. This gives you confidence to approach and open, and to cover the quiet moments or just keep things moving along if she's boring. When you've mastered that - and it'll take a lot of practise - you can learn to steer the conversation more towards her. Ask open questions; follow them up; tease her and joke; use an anecdo…

Countless studies control for human capital and still find a very large pay gap (on the order described by the OP) against women. Well, let's see them. While, in a vacuum, you're correct: the proportion of male to female soldiers should be considered. The reality is that feminists don't consider these extraneous circumstances when discussing "female issues". Take rape, for example. Outside of prison, women are far more likely to be raped. But if we only consider situations where men and women are of equal risk of being raped, all of a sudden rape is a men's issue. As long as feminism only considers absolute numbers when discussing gender issues…

This is a good argument, but so is this: perhaps rape isn't inherent to one sex, but because men tend to be stronger, the few men with such inclinations find it easier to take advantage of women. The take away from these feminist campaigns is that they aren't interested in proportions or reasons. They simply see the absolute figure and attack it. Which is why the poster does a good job of replying in kind.

I'm with you, but a lot of women don't like honesty. They don't like men telling them "you're beautiful, come back to mine". Instead, they prefer the long-winded came of courtship.

As an adult, I would definitely post demiurgency's picture next to her's. As a teenager, I don't think I would have been able to stand my ground and argue on her level. So don't feel obligated to fight this battle if you don't feel prepared. The fact that you're aware of the sexism is enough.

I'm not sure where you live but many public places are filled with people. This leaves few options. Gaze around at people, or at the ground. But you're right, there is no law in place. This is because such a law would be impossible to enforce, and impossible to define. What is rude for you is not rude for another. This is why we generally don'e create laws based on rudeness. It's extremely subjective.
/r/MensRights13/03/13 10:14 PM

Merely gazing at a person in public doesn't strike me as invasive. Over a considerable duration I can imagine it could become disconcerting, but that is the price one pays for living in a society. Forcing people to stare at the ground rather than at others seems like something out of a Sharia law country. For me, boundaries are physical and verbal in certain circumstances. To me, policing where a person may look is completely unacceptable. I would not presume to tell a woman where she may and ma…

Come on now, don't insult our intelligence. Most of us have watched Fox enough to know they have a clear and open bias. That isn't to say other US networks don't. But as Fox is really the only right-wing news channel (and the largest news network in the US), they tend to go overboard trying to cater to that entire political spectrum.

I think it's a common scenario, and I've seen it happen to MRAs too. It's all too easy to start thinking of a group as "the enemy" after a traumatic incident. Sometimes that anger is the only thing that enables someone to cope. Inasmuch, I often pity these feminists, rather than detest them.

Not sure why the feminists spouting off hate means it's okay for us to. The issue I have with "mangina" is that it's gendered shaming language. I attack the feminists for stereotyping all men as rapists, yet here we have an MRA emasculating men who we don't agree with. The purpose of this movement is equality. We want men to be able to be effeminate if they want to. How about we just call them white knights or fucking idiots?

I do this at the end of my normal shower. The problem is the water here in NZ is usually only a few degrees. One can only stand under ice water for a minute or two before their body temp lowers too much and shivering kicks in.

I actually began as a feminist. They made it impossible to ignore the sexism within feminism, and I had no choice but to open my eyes. Exercise helped me with my depression, and I know it has helped countless other people with anger and depression. It's the single most effective method, in fact, depending on the study. Many men aren't as comfortable talking about their emotions with people, or they don't get as much out of it as they do by simply exercising. After years of experimenting, I know hitting a punching bag is 10x more effective for me than talking to someone. I'm pretty tired of the feminization of the psychotherapy …

Same here brother. Sometimes it's so bad I'll feel dizzy afterwards. My two secret weapons are practise and exercise. A hard workout (including 20-30 mins cardio) is like a temporary cure. Works for up to a whole day after the workout. Not 100% sure how it works, but it's brilliant.

Americans live in a republic not a democracy. Know the difference. You do realise a republic is a form of democracy, right? You regurgitated that on reflex and it's sad that you don't seem to know that. I don't really understand your argument against proportional voting. It's simply a more accurate representation of the general population. Are you saying you believe some people shouldn't be allowed to vote because you disagree with them?

From an outsider, it looks like your parties try to create these partisan social issues in order to differentiate themselves and galvanize their support bases, all while continuing to pander to whoever "lobbies" them the most. In other words, these are manufactured issues created to distract from the larger problems in America. You folks need to change to a proportional representative system ASAP; and some kind of cap on campaign spending and lobbying would be a big step forward for democracy.

I'm actually in favour of kyriarchy. It largely removes the male boogeyman in patriarchy and replaces it with much more palatable theories of social inequality (which I believe exist to varying degrees). It still isn't exactly science, but if the choice is between patriarchy and kyriarchy, the latter is by far preferable.

Their feminist ideology allows them to ignore and marginalize acts of sexism towards men under the guise that we have advantages in other areas, so it all balances out. It's horribly sexist, yet they genuinely believe it. It also doesn't stand up to scrutiny, but who needs facts in a good old fashioned circle-jerk?
/r/MensRights20/10/12 02:13 AM

It's not as hard-hitting as r/MensRights, but it does deal with issues men face in society. A big problem is that perhaps half the users are feminists, who delight in explaining why us men are terrible, and what we can do to correct the terrible miscarriage of nature. I think it needs more men and MRAs to balance out the bullshit, so I encourage our users to subscribe. I'd like to see it move towards a more general discussion point a la TwoXChromosomes.

I was discussing intoxicated consent with another user and stumbled across this interesting publication from the American Prosecutors Research Institute. It's a little dry, but it does provide an interesting insight into the mind of a US prosecutor. Of note was the quote in the title. Apparently prosecutors are encouraged to proceed under the notion of forcible rape when possible, as that's what juries expect, and what is easier to convict with.

I would be less concerned with morality. You see, morality is relative. Some people find it highly immoral for women to wear skirts. Do you think they should be allowed to dox women who wear skirts? I hope not. So what you need to do is re-calibrate your offense-o-meter to beep only when you see illegal things. Laws are codified morals which society has agreed upon as a whole. Seems this is correlation. Women who are more likely to be submissive and enjoy gender roles are less likely to initiate divorce. Women who are more assertive and dislike gender roles are more likely to initiate. This would made the findings more useful at the courting stage of a relationship, where the man can find out her preferences right off the bat. I don't think it matter how much housework he does down the road; just what kind of person she is.

Before you waste any more time with this guy, we're having a lively discussion about the merits if banning him. Have a read. He basically just hates everyone. It's only a matter of time before he accuses you of being a feminist leftist liberal socialist Nazi troll.

There's a lot of crossover between r/Anarchism and r/ShitRedditSays. They're, ironically, one of the most oppressive subreddits on Reddit. There have been numerous altercations over the years, including using feminist flags and branding people they disagree with. Note my honourable mention under "Wankers", when I tried to question the wanton use of "rape apologist" to silence dissent and argue against dismissing violence against men. They had discussions about me here, here, and here. These disc…

I'm on your side. I really am. I used to remove what I consider to be troll posts very quickly. Truthman and a few other self-proclaimed "conservatives" told me I was being too heavy handed. They were really rather belligerent about it. So I stopped. Now I'm getting attacked by others for not being heavy handed enough. There's no winning. The problem isn't too few mods (check out the mod ratios in other subreddits - SRS is an exception). The problem is that we're trying to balance the wishes of …

We have a lot of people who we consider to be trolls, on both sides, and from many different ideologies. Last time I cracked down a lot of conservative users claimed I was "censoring". I'd like nothing more than to dust off the ban hammer, but I'd need community support. I might make a meta submission if more users feel heavier moderation is in order. As for being SRS sympathizers, seriously? I mean, seriously?? Have you ever talked to us? Do you know our stories, and why we became MRAs?

We tried removing trolls. Users like truthman and demonspawn shouted "censorship" from the rooftops. And to their credit, trolling isn't black and white. Some people genuinely believe things we consider to be outrageous. We've always tried not to remove dissenting opinions.

women's nature embraces the female entitlement complex Broad generalizations about women? Must be our resident bigot, truthman2000. Do you like it when feminists call rape "just in men's nature"? No? Then don't do it about women. Some people are entitled. Women have the luxury of having their entitlement backed up by the law. This leads some women to be more brazen about how they act. That doesn't mean all women are entitled. Or that you're a rapist just for being a man.

Bingo. This girl has been taught her whole life that men want nothing more than sex. When she offers it, but is turned down, she thinks it's a wholesale rejection of her. She's probably very rarely turned down. Hence the confidence, and probably waiting until 2AM to form a solid rapport with nathandrakesdick. Unfortunately this social dynamic is unlikely to change unless men start acting more like nathan. This just isn't going to happen any time soon.

Do you have any idea how damaging to the life of a man a false rape accusation is? Many men lose their jobs, their families, their houses, their friends, and their reputations. It's often a life sentence. We "got it out" for false rape accusers because of the seriousness of the crime.

Never take dating advice from girls ever. Take clothing advice from them. They know what they think is attractive. They might might not know why, but they know. Their opinion of clothes isn't buried under a mountain of false social constructs, so they're free to be honest about how they feel.

But what is her business? Selling junk clothes to junk people (women). And make no mistake - women are junk. They produce nothing. All the machinery her business uses will have been designed by men. And there's the rub - men invent and produce things so worthless people can sit in air-conditioned offices and say men are useless, whilst their only contribution to society is designing crap clothes for women. If a woman wants to work in a mine, what business is that of mine? In a marriage, two people get to divvy up the responsibilities they see fit. I've heard the argument that we should simply allow the propagation of the idea that holistic healing works because the placebo affect may help some people. The problem with placebo healing is that it's very inconsistent. Only some people are sometimes susceptible to the placebo affect. This means if we start prescribing, for example, astrology as a viable alternative to anxiety therapy, a good portion of those who were prescribed the placebo won't be improved in any way. This is unethical when …

Advocating for violence is unacceptable. It's both a Reddit rule, and a r/MensRights rule. This woman is clearly evil, and I sincerely hope karma exists. The solution is to reform the law and challenge feminism wherever it rears its ugly head. What she's done should be illegal. I think some of it is. She should be in prison for a very long time. As our discussions often boil down to, it's subjective. I see Truthman contributing very little to the sub, other than attacking members over their political affiliation. Snowflake tends to attack members over a much wider variety of issues. If we take the two, both are extremely belligerent, but Snowflake tends to argue for a wider range of issue, and therefore "contributes" more. Personally, I'd rather have neither of their contributions.

Interaction means involving yourself in the society which enables you to do virtually everything you do. Almost nothing you do is possible without the cooperation of others. Committed by leftist regimes in pursuit of leftist goals. And "rightist" regimes in pursuit of "rightist" goals. Not at all. The French Revolution was an important step in modern feminism: While De Gouges and Roland believed women were owed rights, such opinions were not limited to this period and location in history. Such writers have been prevalent throughout history. It was only at turn of the 20th century and beyond, when processed food and other household conveniences became more common, th…

Thanks mate. The Reign of Terror (and French Revolution) and the Ukrainian famine are both considered examples of poor economic policy, among many, many more factors. We could both make solid arguments for pretty much any political ideology in those periods, given the chaotic nature of their societies and the competing factions within. That said, since we're discussing a feminist slandering a man's name, bringing up the French Revolution is another example of what I consider way off topic. I und…

Ah, Sweden. Where their feminists want males to pee sitting down. They analysed data from a single journal, and somehow extrapolated that to represent all journals everywhere. This is the sort of top-down nonsense which invites ridicule. Invitations are sent out to prominent researches in their respective fields. Clearly more males dominate in the fields they're interested in. This isn't the journal's fault. It's not even necessarily a bad thing. Women tend to choose different career paths.

I see most of the use of the concept of "objectification" to be a demonization of male sexual desire. I agree. Much of feminism nowadays is simply demonization of masculinity, in all forms. Part of that is male sexuality. That's why feminists will go so far as to shame prostitutes, despite the fact that selling sex is pretty much the embodiment of sexual power and control.

Bearing in mind apparently I'm a Godless "Lefty", but this seems like really poor advice. Compared with condom use, it's twice as likely to fail with perfect use. I think I'm getting an insight into how you think. You don't see the world as it is. You see it as you want to see it. It's an imagined reality, and you live in it. Instead of changing to fit your reality, you fight tooth and nail to change reality to fit your world. This makes this discussion moot. It doesn't matter how many studies I present, or how many reasoned replies I make, you won't ever, ever consider that you were wrong. If you'd like to continue this discussion, do so in meta.

It's near the top: Off-Topic: Off-topic submissions are those that have nothing to do with Men's Rights. Generally the poster will be notified and the post removed. Off-topic posts that hit the spam-filter may be left there without notice. Note that in general posts about SRS and related subreddits are off-topic. Have you read them?

This is because whilst some behaviour is explicitly gendered, very little, if any, behaviour can be proven to be directly caused because of race. If you wouldn't mind providing some proof for these two assertions. It seems we're talking about a continuum in both cases. Society encourages certain behaviour based on gender and race. I would argue that cultural heritage and behavioural patterns are just as powerful as gendered behaviour, if not more so. In fact, cultural behaviour dictates how gend…

Here's my experience with women in a given social environment; work, for example. They pay a lot of attention to perceived social hierarchies. Part of that attention is actively and passively enforcing that hierarchy. In order for someone to be at the top, there must be someone at the bottom. Unfortunately you are that man, for now. Labels like "creep" are mostly irrelevant in your situation. They're simply comparing you to other male colleagues and giving you a role. If it wasn't you, it would …

Is there such a thing? A completely separate movement for solely women's rights, and that's how they advocate themselves? Apart from the last part, this sounds like feminism. It would be great if they didn't pretend to advocate for men, but they like to monopolize equality discussions. For all intents and purposes, feminism is a women's rights movement.

You jump to a less likely conclusion. Gender is a powerful identity construct. Emasculating a man attempts to strip him of his identity; what he sees as positive traits. This is exactly the same for women. Women being ascribed masculine traits is also considered insulting for the same reason. It doesn't mean each gender hates the other, just that they value their personal identity. It's a healthy, natural response.

You haven't given me any evidence for why the abundance of the terms "grow a pair" and "cojones" indicates your assertion. You've given me your belief. Perhaps "grow a pair" is so ubiquitous because it's used so often to emasculate men in a society which generally feels men are inferior? I can go toe to toe with social "analysis" like this, which is why I asked for facts.
/r/MensRights09/08/12 06:30 AM

I don't have enough data to agree or disagree. Yes, I've seen some men presumed to have courage, and some women presumed to be cowards, but I've also seen the reverse. I don't see how you can say that's a constant without any evidence.

grow a pair I'm not a big fan of this gender shaming bullshit. If you're trying to shame us into agreeing with you by playing on tired gender stereotypes, you've come to the wrong place. We're all pretty comfortable with our sexuality, and understand our consigned roles within society. Let's play a game. You give me an example of a social disadvantage women experience in America (statistically speaking), and I'll give you an example of a social disadvantage men face. Facts only. We play until on…

I understand the confusion. The distinction is this: men's rights doesn't purport to advocate for both men and women (as feminism claims to). Rather, as the name clearly states, we're solely interest in men's rights. That doesn't preclude the fact that most MRAs are egalitarians. On the contrary. The reason we don't focus on women's issues is because we feel feminism already does that very, very well. We feel that men's issues have been completely ignored, hence the MRM.
/r/MensRights09/08/12 04:19 AM
9

Haha. I've been hearing from a lot of gay/bisexual men that they feel disenfranchised with feminism. It claims to represent the gay community, while simultaneously alienating and attacking men. In men's rights they actually find true egalitarianism.

Because of their impact on discussions. Follow the featured link. EvilPundit's karma is so low now that the comment is hidden. The comment tree is a mess. These submissions happen all over Reddit, and they frequently involve gender disparities. If this community is driven by feminists, they simply become another SRS - except they'll also attract a much wider audience of moderates. I suggest we act as a counter-weight.

We're being featured more frequently now. I'm not saying SRS and other feminist users have all subscribed to r/SubredditDrama, but submissions like this give me a strong suspicion. Relationships are what you make of them. The fundamental connection involves trust and commitment. The truth is that with 3.5 billion people of the opposite sex out there, there is always someone better, if you look. This means that if you're the type of person to leave your partner whenever a better option becomes available, you will always find another Mr. Right. You will never be happy. Cajamian is right.

It's not really random when it's highly upvoted in a major sub in a submission on the front page. A hell of a lot of ignorant users were required to do that. Arguing against that mentality seems sensible to me. I do respect your position, however.

My major concern with linking is when we generally overpower discussion in smaller subs. Then it can be a problem. This sub has millions of users. It will be seen by users across every spectrum on Reddit. Viewing and commenting by our users is therefore normal and expected. Sometimes users say ignorant and sexist things. Correcting them isn't necessarily bad. The problem occurs when that becomes our focus, or when our perception of ignorant and sexist becomes warped. We hope to avoid that by all…

Both 1 and 2 are good points. I think that the original premise was less feminist and more men's rights. But vegibowl wasn't shy about her penchant for egalitarianism; and she was clear she didn't have the same aversion to feminism. Nothing wrong with being cautious. We've had plenty of feminist organisations and groups try to "educate" us unwashed masses. The Good Men Project comes to mind. That said, it's pretty clear from the submissions and discussions that they have a genuine interest in me…

We're definitely on the same page. It's difficult to walk the line between open discourse and the crap Hamdizzle was "joking" about.

I even agreed to undo the ban when he explained it was just a "joke". I'm beginning to think this user is really just a troll looking to stir up drama. That was my gut reaction, and these sorts of posts just confirm it.

Honestly, I've spoken with vegibowl on many occasions, and feel she's got her head screwed on tight, and has her heart in the right place. I've got a lot of confidence in her abilities. Remember: this is their forum, and they're advocating for male issues. Maybe they don't do it the way you want it to be done, but they're still a group of women advocating for issues which affect men, and that's much more than you see any other gender group doing.

This is a great argument because it also exposes her argument for what feminists seem to hate: evolutionary psychology. Most feminists subscribe to the idea of tubula rasa: the idea that all humans are born free from innate behavior. She's basically reinforcing the notion that tabula rasa is baloney.

See, while I can appreciate your strict adherence to your beliefs, this is something I could never agree with you on. I see a massive difference between violent sexual assault, and waking your partner up to a sexual act which you believe they'll enjoy. Perhaps there's a misunderstanding, and they don't, but such an incident should be akin to a slap on the wrist. It should never be charged in the same category as violent assault. Off the top of my head, my mother's cousin was given a lot of aid (including legal) by (I think) the Men's Rights Agency. Just like with feminism, there is no central authority on who may label themselves an MRA. There are idiots on both sides, unfortunately. But right now, the idiots within feminism have a hell of a lot more power than the idiots within men's rights. I mean, they're writing laws. So for now, I think it makes sense to focus on the idiots within feminism.

Anything which ends in "make me a sandwich" kinda loses you the high ground, don't you think? Also using "bitch", and implying women can't do things like fix stuff around the house makes you come off like an ass. That's really not a good way to get your point across.

There is no central authority on who may call themselves an MRA. Just like there is no official authority on who may call themselves a feminist. This leads to all sorts of vilification of both movements. It is unavoidable. The most we can do is tell people we do no associate with the likes of Manhood Academy when they ask. We will not start prefacing all our comments with "BEFORE YOU THINK WE'RE MISOGYNISTS, PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH THE MANHOOD ACADEMY ET AL."

I think I did interpret your comment strangely, but perhaps you did the same for my original comment. I didn't mean to imply I could build muscle on a calorie deficit. But, yes, some people do absorb more nutrients (and total calories), and process them at different rates, than others. For example this study shows a link between total caloric absorption and composition of intestinal microbes. Just imagine the impact the physical composition of the intestinal tract has on absorption.

I don't know anyone who takes nutrition and exercise seriously who places any weight into the three categories of body type you listed. They're far too broad, and aren't really based on any kind of science. As for homeostatic metabolism, surely you're aware that there are hundreds of individual factors which combine to form one's BMR? Exercise and diet are two, but everything from the proportion of slow-twitch and fast-twitch muscles, to relative size, to how efficient each mitochondrion is on t…

I feel you man. I'm kinda there right now. The truth is there are a hundred million girls hotter than she is. If you look at her objectively, you'll see she's not perfect. The hard part for me is getting into a routine. Once I'm there it's great, but I can't let it slip. It's that first week or so getting back into a routine which sucks, but it's worth it. Also do some reading and talk to the instructors when you first start out. This might save you some time: 1 hour x 4-5 days a week is perfect. Don't just focus on losing fat. You also want to gain muscle, as this makes you look better, feel better (boosts testosterone), and burns for calories. Dont just focus on…
/r/seduction13/07/12 11:07 AM

Haha, quite. I should probably have worded that better. I think the laws should be able to be interpreted by anyone who posesses basic reading comprehension. For those who don't, they could be appointed someone. But these appointees wouldn't need to be anything more than average citizens.
/r/MensRights13/07/12 07:18 AM

The goal is to eliminate the requirement for lawyers. I don't see why they would be required given the above, unless the person is below average intelligence.
/r/MensRights13/07/12 04:16 AM

There are many solutions, and such a plan would likely require many of them. One is the adoption of a central governing body over the use of words. With such control, words can be extremely accurately described, and they can resist semantic drift. Much of law already relies on common meaning. Another solution is the conscious simplification in the creation of laws. For example, in one of our relatively simple acts, the Crimes Act (New Zealand), many sections and subsection rely on exclusions, in…

I have often felt that ordinary citizens cannot be expected to follow the law if they are not expected to be able to understand it. We need multiple year qualifications to be considered fit to interpret and apply the law - so what right do we have to expect citizens to do so? Instead, I firmly believe we need a radical overhaul of the common law system. Laws must be written in plain language, simple enough for the average citizen to understand. As precedent is set, those laws must be re-written …

Why would banning urinals be cleaner? You know what else would be cleaner? Banning menstruation in the toilets, and forcing women who are menstruating to use separate, clearly labelled toilets. While we're at it, banning bowel movements also seems cleaner. They should make another, clearly-labelled toilet for that.

The mods have been protecting the culture of this sub by allowing it to police itself for years. It's working. I sincerely believe it would not be this popular if we took the approach r/feminisms has. So for that reason, among others, I'd like to leave this sub as is. I liked your idea to create places for more serious MR discussion, however, and that's my rationale behind the new sub/s. A place where facebook screenshots are not welcome. I'm not sure if links to Reddit comments would work there…
/r/MensRights09/07/12 11:47 AM

Haha, welcome to the new sub :) The intent is more serious discussion. I still want to keep this sub as governed by the users. I may even make more subs with different goals (like SRS does). I like the general discussion in r/antiSRS. Incidentally, I also created r/MRDiscussion. Between that and r/MensRightsDiscussion, which do you think works better?
/r/MensRights09/07/12 11:35 AM

And on that premise I agree - many of us do. The reason you're seeing resistance is because the implication of what you're suggesting carries serious and long-lasting implications. Implications which we've been discussing ad nauseum for years now.
/r/MensRights09/07/12 10:57 AM

You raise some good points too. Maybe the solution is the creation of another subreddit for more serious discussion. As r/TrueGaming is to r/Gaming. I just created r/MensRightsDiscussion, and I may advertise it if other users express interest in the idea.

You don't see any other options? What about general social education? In your example, what about having an office policy of taking complaints from men seriously? The person who sent it doesn't have to be fired, but it would be nice if it wasn't tacitly acceptable. That said, it depends on context. If this was completely out of the blue, no harm no foul. I castigate SRS for using gender shaming language. Why the hell are you doing it too? Disagree with those men all you like, but using that kind of language simultaneously weakens our position and gives weight to theirs.

Thanks for the submission, and welcome to our subreddit. I actually have a query about testosterone replacement. What do you consider to be optimal levels of free testosterone for those in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s? What are the side effects of too much or too little testosterone? Further, studies have shown men have a lower free T count than their fathers and grandfathers. Do you agree with this conclusion, and what do you think is the cause?

I applaud your attempt at objectivity. The truth is most people are largely incapable of looking at a situation dispassionately; particularly when they have emotional investment in the topic. Please feel free to continue posting here. I think your input will be enlightening. As I said, it's important we have contrasting opinions here, or we just turn into the circlejerks that other gender subreddits have become.

I have no degree in sociology, but I don't feel that disqualifies me from understanding complex issues of gender equality. It doesn't prevent me from reading the studies and understanding the statistics. It doesn't prevent me from helping out at men's centers and providing support where and when I can. I hope you aren't suggesting the only people who could grasp the issues in totality are those with sociology degrees. I certainly won't ban you for stating your mind. We get a lot of trolls here b…

We could make this argument for any agency, government or otherwise. I don't think it's important that the police force is representative of the population, provided the government is representative of the population. The police force is answerable to the government, and that should be sufficient. However, it do think it's nice if the police force is representative.

I think you (understandably) misunderstand our beliefs on this issue. Yes, we believe the disparity in, for example, work place deaths is troubling. However, I don't feel this disparity necessarily needs to be "corrected". It's clear more men are choosing dangerous professions, but why is that? Some dangerous jobs are more physically demanding, and this will naturally attract more capable applicants. That's a natural function of capitalism, however, and isn't necessarily bad. It's efficient. But…

While I appreciate that these individual roles are important to you and any family you may have or wish to have, they are not important to everyone. First, please realise you're talking to a r/MR mod. I have a lot of my own research and experience under my belt. I did not join this movement lightly. I used to describe myself as a feminist, and I bought into the patriarchy hypothesis whole hog. While you may feel my disagreement with you is condescending, maybe I feel your disagreement with me is condescending. This is how a healthy discussion works. Don't allow yourself to descend into discussing your feelings. Obviously the perceived weight…

I have seen no change with regards to our attitude towards misogyny or misandry. We think both are wrong. We are more aware of trolls now, however, and that may be what you're seeing. Take note of the difference between gendered insults and misogyny/misandry. While the former should certainly be frowned on, it doesn't constitute misogyny or misandry. Usually the insult is simply gender-specific; for example "bitch" for women and "asshole" for men. The person only uses the insult because it's mor…

A lot of discussions happened during and after the SPLC thing. Honestly, very few users felt we actually had a real issue with misogyny. Most of us believe we're painted or seen as misogynistic because we buck social convention by not making our primary focus women's rights. That said, we did notice a large increase in trolls, and many of the criticisms revolved around the crass comments of those trolls. So I've been on a mini crusade, and it's been working. The difference between an idiot and a…

While Factory2 is indeed being a dick, we don't usually interfere in personal disputes like this. As for "bitch" being an example of misogyny; tell me, was my use of "dick" misandry? Such liberal interpretations of what constitutes misogyny undermine any message you may hope to portray here. I would suggest not engaging with Factory2 anymore, as it seems unproductive.

None of our mods are transgendered. That you feel the need to make such accusations in an ostensibly hostile manner suggests not only sexism, but transphobia of some sort. Thanks for saying this. We have all kinds of members here, from people on both sides of the US political spectrum, to those from all sorts of political beliefs from around the world, to former feminists, to fathers and mothers. I'm tired of seeing people indoctrinated to a particular ideology attacking everyone else. We are all here for one purpose: equal rights for men. That's it. Of the few studies which do show a measurable increase in HIV contraction, there are many, many criticisms. One of my personal favourites is that they only conducted the studies over the course of a few months, and included the time in which is took for the subject's penises to heal. Pick your battles. When you discussed racial privilege as well as sex privilege you started two debates, with twice as many opponents. It's a quick way to get swamped. I understand that it made sense in the broad context of "privilege", but since Reddit isn't conducted as a structured debate, you need to use more tact. As evidenced by the fact that they kept talking about gender issues, she just wanted to silence you. By playing on male stereotypes (strong, decisive, silent), she did just that. I'll preface this by saying I'm probably going to have to bow to your knowledge here; you have just written a thesis. I think it can be argued either way. To my knowledge, not all theories are able to establish a strong causal link, particularly when dealing with many highly correlated variables. For example, smoking is still only correlated with lung cancer. While the thought has crossed my mind, I think arguing over the term "theory" with a feminist, rather than "patriarchy" is usually a non s…

It's a theory. That's what's so convenient about it: they say it doesn't require proof. It's a way to maintain the status of "victim". As they've discovered, it's quite a powerful tool. The absolute best response to any claims of patriarchy is to ask for proof.

Actually, it's the opposite. Artificially low interest rates not only creates a larger financial system than free-floating interest rates, but it also fuels bubbles. Additionally, economic crises after the Fed was created have been larger than pre-Fed. Banks set the interest rates. They don't have to borrow from the federal reserve, but it's usually the cheapest means of credit. And of course economic crises were worse in the US after the advent of the FR. The world economy has exponentially inc…

So no, there's really no argument to say that it would be replaced. Except the wealth of economic data which shows that the more deregulated financial systems become, the more corruption and instability presents itself. Anarcho-capitalism, for now, is nothing more than a thought-experiment. All evidence points to some kind of ultim…

At least state corruption relies on politicians being voted into that power. If the citizens were diligent, they'd organise and have the corruption rooted out. That's within their power. Why should these men have to challenge their masculinity? I also see "classism" as a synonym for "men are oppressors". That's a pretty open attack on men and masculinity. How do you think women would feel if they were forced to address how toxic their femininity was to society, and how they're all evil, privileged assholes simply because of their gender? Sorry, "gender crimes" is a pretty accurate paraphrase of the kinds of hate-filled lunacy coming from those people.

My argument is that women must have the right to abort; she must retain control of her body. To stay on this narrow line of rationale, let me expand on the counter-point. I work to make money. I must work or I will die of starvation or exposure. When someone takes some of that money from me, they are effectively forcing me to work more (or differently). It is a form of removing my control over my body. I'm not saying I think men should be able to control women's choices regarding their bodies. B…

Yes, women can abort. women are the only ones who can get pregnant. They didn't used to be able to. They used to have to just accept the responsibility because they "couldn't keep their legs shut". Society evolved. We realised that forcing women to accept that burden without her consent was immoral, so we gave them the right to absolve themselves of said responsibility. It's time men are given a similar right.
/r/MensRights24/05/12 12:52 AM

I'm sure you did. There are almost as many definitions and interpretations as there are feminists. For the sake of keeping the peace, it may be better to just call these gender roles in r/MR. We will all agree with you then.

...So we men can just sign away our responsibilities? ...So women can just abort or adopt away their responsibilities?
/r/MensRights24/05/12 12:41 AM

One's financial situation influences almost every decision one makes in life, from where they live to how they spend their free time, to how they work. It is the primary motivating force in Western societies. You seem to be suggesting that women should be given an exception to this during pregnancy. I don't agree.
/r/MensRights24/05/12 12:41 AM
3

That may be your idea of patriarchy, but it's not all so for all feminists. What you describe is simply called "gender roles". Patriarchy attempts to describe unifying factors, as well as assigning a kind of global score for each sex. Neither can be proven.
/r/MensRights23/05/12 10:15 PM
2

But reality is that abstinence is our only control, and demanding "financial abortion" when we could simply keep it in our pants speaks poorly to the sense of entitlement many men feel regarding access to casual sex. This was the same argument used against women when abortions were not allowed. Will you be consistent, and say that you don't think women should not be able to have abortions or use birth control? Or are you using a double standard?
/r/MensRights23/05/12 09:20 PM
3

That definition of coercion is far too loose. I'm coercing my wife to become pregnant when I say "I like babies". And I'm coercing her to have an abortion when I say "I don't like babies". Coercion is the act of compelling someone by force of authority. Provided he doesn't have any authority over her decision to abort - legally he does not - it's not considered coercion.

Yes, yes it does. It specified "a limited time" But not 99 years. Which is not "everyone" Not everyone uses the services of the police. Not everyone uses every road. For the federal government, the Constitution denies what it does not allow. For the state governments, due to the 10th, the Constitution allows what it does not deny. There is a reason for this, as I explained in my last post. This is the text: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it t…

What you describe in Ireland is basically just tribalism. I wasn't very familiar with Irish history, so I did a little research. They matured much the same way most other parts of Europe did at the time. Tribes went to war and fought over land and resources frequently. It was no utopia. There is evidence of local tribes coming together to fend off Viking attacks and the like, of course. But there is no evidence of all tribes in Ireland forming some kind of collective agreement until much later. …

Well I actually don't think anarchy is logically possible, for the reason you set out: force. Without a central authority governing who may use force, anyone can use force. Hence anarchy. Cue Somalia. Under anarchy, no person or organisation holds a monopoly on power. What is to prevent a faction from becoming violent? Nothing but other people and factions. And then you have warring factions. I agree that for a society to function there must be ways of enforcing rules, but I don't see how that's…

There are actual ways to have universal healthcare and have it be Constitutionally valid. It would have to be implemented as a service of general welfare, as in it is a service th…

I was with you up to the point where you made a case for legalization sex with minors. There's a reason we don't allow minors to consent - they aren't able to accurately assess the consequences of their decisions, like making babies. As for the rest, I think we mostly agree. Rape and deceit should be treated differently, and that's really all most of us are asking for. This is exactly why Somalia is anarchic. Whenever a power void presents itself, there is never a shortage of people who will attempt to fill it. This is observed in Somalia, with warring factions (collectives) all fighting for their own personal welfare. This is almost the definition of anarchic. Don't confuse "anarchic" with "peaceful society without central authority". Anarchists aren't inherently peaceful. As for anarcho-capitalists and taxes, without a "small" government being able to enforc…

The Constitution created the framework for copyright. The act simply implemented the framework. It can also be said that the constitution provided the framework for a working republic, in which citizens vote for laws which they agree with, including welfare. Further, the preamble states: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic…

Two great issues to discuss with some of the more ignorant people there. First: he had consensual sex with a woman, yet was convicted of rape. No statute has the authority to contradict the Constitution. Understood. I'm specifically talking about statute and precedent which doesn't amend the Constitution. For example the Copyright Act of 1790. This act didn't amend the constitution, but it did create the framework for copyright. It created a copyright lifespan, which the Constitution did not. Do you respect these laws, or only laws which specifically enshrined (and amended to) the Constitution? I have nothing against federal taxes or s…

Yes, much of current copyright law is, also, unconstitutional At the risk of sounding facetious (I'm not), doesn't this effectively end patents and copyright, unless you cede that case and statute written after the constitution has its place? Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 You'll need to be more specific than that. The Constitution only says "limited times". Where does it say Disney gets to patent Mickey for 90 years? Sherrifs? Those are under the state level. FBI? Actually unconstitutional. Mind you, we did fine with only sherrifs until 1903 or so. So who pays for the sheriffs then? Find me where your government is authorized to provide services like patent laws and police. Hint: in the US Constitution, they aren't. In fact, very little of what the US government does is actually in the constitution. Instead, your citizens vote on things they find important to them. I'm not sure how to argue over how much such a law change would cost. I'll use New Zealand as an example. Our total budget for last year was $100bn. $420mil was collected in child support payments. Even if we assume that all child support payments would be taken care of by the government (which I'm not suggesting at all), that's only 0.0042% of the budget. Yes, this double standard is worrying because, to me, it sets a dangerous precedent. Is killing a foetus murder or manslaughter? Fine, then charge both sexes, including doctors performing abortions. Is it not murder or manslaughter? Then charge no one.

This is a good utilitarian argument. While I don't think society would collapse under the strain of all fatherless babies, I do think it would add a significant burden to any social welfare support available. So the question then becomes: is it moral to force men who have been tricked, coerced, or raped into paying for child support for 18-20 years simply so that society at large doesn't have a slightly increased total expenditure in terms of welfare for poor mothers. I answer no to that questio…

Of course I oppose those. But isn't the intent behind those to correct some perceived social discrimination? That is, the intent isn't to create a flat social structure, but to correct inherent discrimination. I'm going to bow out now. What about powerful women? Why do you think only powerful men are capable of oppression? Are all powerful men complicit? How did you prove that? How did you define "powerful"? That's one thing we're working on. Another should be equal reproductive rights. Men are also told they should take care of an unwanted child because it's immoral and wrong not to. It's the same argument: it's used to shame men into responsibility which they shouldn't necessarily have.

I understand the distinction you're trying to draw, but it doesn't make any sense. If society is "geared" towards me and my friends, and society is a collection of individual actions, and I am part of said society, it logically follows that the actions of me and my friends contributes towards said patriarchy. Feminists won't give up the idea of the patriarchy overnight. What I like about kyriarchy is it removes men as oppressors. It's basically the same patriarchy model, but men aren't seen as evil villains. That's a massive step in the right direction. While I don't agree with kyriarchy as a whole, it is far preferable to patriarchy, and I'll be advocating for it whenever I see a feminist who tries to tell me the patriarchy exists. Something proportional to attempting to have someone put into prison for a significant portion of their lives. Trivializing false allegations makes you look both callous and intentionally obtuse. While most of their users do not believe that, if we do pick up the habit for interrupting their threads like this then we're only going to be validating the claim.

If it makes any difference I probably know the guy better than you and I can assure you, he's no feminist. He's a true egalitarian though, so he's not into the whole "women should be in kitchens" trope the traditionalists have been parroting. You made some vague references below but you didn't substantiate them. Can you point to those comments?

This is loaded for a number of reasons - most of which I'm sure you're aware. The only correct "answer" is this: Not everyone within a given social strata experiences all the advantages or disadvantages all the time. Don't generalize like that.

I agree that we can use social indicators to measure an average advantage or disadvantage. But that/those indicators can't be compared against others. So we can't say "well women are paid less, but men die more often, so men have it worse". As you say, they cannot be compared. So my rationale has always been: stick to the indicators. Are women paid less? Fine. Lets see the evidence and work towards getting women pay parity. But let's not make grandiose claims like 'women have it worse than men'.…

This should probably be posted to r/MensRightsMeta. That said, r/MensRights is certainly growing faster than it used to. These are the traffic and subscriber stats for the last couple months. CMOS is pretty close: an average of 107 subscribers per day over the last two months. And that appears to be increasing. We must be doing something right. My guess is there are a lot of disenfranchised men out there who don't even know there are other men with similar feelings.

How do you conclude that men benefit more often? I mean, what evidence do you have to support that? I don't see how two advantages or disadvantages could be compared. Let alone the total life sum of an individual. And against an entire sex of an entire country? I don't see how it's possible, but I'll await your answer. Additionally, assuming you can prove that, how does a sex average privilege generalize to the individual? Some mean objectively have it worse than some women. Treating those men l…

You're (rightly) attacking a power structure which is completely decoupled from "men". Very few men partook (or partake) in any real power in society. That you continue to blame "men" for the actions of the few is fucking insulting. It doesn't make any kind of sense.

My girlfriend of almost five years broke up with me a few months ago. I honestly believe we were happy, but not Disney happy. I think society gives women a fucked up sense of what a relationship is supposed to be. They subconsciously buy into this motion of being love-drunk forever. That's just not realistic. It's hard, but I've been through it before. You must look forward. Train yourself to look towards your new goals (you have those, right?) whenever you're looking backwards. It becomes habit…

By law in most countries, if you are in immediate danger you may take steps to defend yourself. But you may only use as much force as is necessary. Your comment amounts to a threat of violence, and for obvious reasons we can't tolerate that in this subreddit. Oppose feminism all you like - we will agree with you. But you won't be allowed to threaten violence like that.

I'm saying it's wrong for it to be 'default' to infringe the child's rights. You already stated that, should the father choose a paternity test, the child's "right" comes second. You've already set the precedent. The discussion now is in which situations you feel the child's "right" to paternal anonymity should remain. Privileges in this context are entirely arbitrary. An "as standard" right is still a right. My right not to be murdered is still a right, even though it's "as standard". I wouldn'…

We are currently discussing this. I will be making a meta post over the next couple of days to announce a change regarding cross-posting and request input. Exactly. His business. His to find out. Not yours to tell him. Precisely. No one should be able to withhold relevant information about his business. If someone wants to find out, they can, at the expense of their (potential) child's rights. If a man doesn't have any suspicions, how will he know to ask for one? No. :) Fine, but let it be known you opened this Pandora's box. He can opt to insure himself against that via a DNA test if he so wishes. Not if he doesn't know to ask for one. Totally dif…

How is this a rebuttal? If he has a right to know, he can choose not to exercise that right. I'm going to move away from the word "rights", as rights are defined by the majority in any given democracy, and they are fluid. The distinction you've made between active and passive rights is purely semantic. You're describing different societal rules which conflict, and you've chosen which rules you subscribe to (which should win). There's no real logic to it. You've just chosen it. While I admire your passion, I still value logic and reason over emotion. Why? Because emotion is fundamentally unreasonable. It knows no logic. It is blind. It is immature. It is selfish. Emotion doesn't even need a reason to exist. Emotion is the cause of the great disasters and crimes throughout history. It's the devil on our shoulder telling us to act out of impulse rather than thought. Experiencing anger when bad things happen to people is entirely understandable. That is human nature. But …

You're throwing around the word "rights" too liberally. I could argue that it is the man's "right" to know he is the biological father. I don't believe giving him knowledge is "forcing" anything upon him. It is simply giving him knowledge. How he uses that is up to him. It allows him to make an informed decision about his life. I'm extremely wary of people who consider the truth to be harmful. The only people I've ever met to use that statement have been dishonest; who rationalize away their mis…

It's the slippery slope. Some "good" feminists may try to inject their beliefs into the movement, but so might anyone else, for any number of reasons. We don't have a central governing body. Just like with feminism "men's rights" is different for each person, so it's impossible to brand people "good" or "bad" MRAs and feminists. Remember, many people call themselves feminists for no other reason than they believe in equality. Such is how feminism has branded itself. If these people could be educ…

If there is no suspicion, you wouldn't need a test. This logic isn't sound at all. No suspicion doesn't mean the child is genetically his. He may be completely trusting, but she may still cheat. It is important in these instances that men are given the truth, even though they may have had no suspicion to begin with. It is not my opinion and I am equally entitled to mine. Absolutely. I don't understand it, but you are entitled to it.
/r/MensRights02/05/12 12:12 PM

A couple problems here, and reading your comment history you are clearly smart enough to know what they are. We are also discussing cases where there is no suspicion. Men who do not know they are raising someone else's child should be aware. If the child isn't genetically his then the child isn't genetically his. That's important for many men, even if just to know that she didn't cheat on him.

Time after time this subreddit it put on SRS. I don't really understand how this is relevant. SRS is widely regarded as one of the most bigoted subreddits on Reddit. If we are being displayed there it is only because we believe in equality, and they hate that. They prefer to view all gender discussion through a lens of female oppression. If females aren't given an advantage, that means they're being disadvantaged. They adhere to a patriarchy model, which is provably false. The appeal to populari…

This is an interesting point. Humans are very susceptible to corruption. If society reinforced a model whereby we got lots of attention and free stuff just by being pretty and asking for it, I have no doubt many men would turn into the equivalent of this. I learned through a decade of rejection that I can live without being in a relationship with a woman. This is a powerful realization. Most men have to constantly struggle for most of the things they achieve; be it their career or relationships. Most of us go through a kind of trial by fire. So it's no surprise that we end up more worldly, and maybe a little jaded. We've been taught - repeatedly - to rely on no one but ourselves.

As a man, I would have a hard time at the voting booths come election day if I lived in the US. On the one hand, I'm fairly liberal in my views. But I just don't see the Democratic party as liberal. How can they be, if they vote against progressive initiatives like this? I would probably just say "fuck it" and vote for Ron Paul. At least he actually does what he says he will do.

Failure to force integration due to the Liberal belief in multiculturalism. This is a really poignant one. I agree that Western culture is too accepting of cultural values which don't mesh well. I think greater pressure should be placed on integration, but I don't believe that's a "Liberal" fault. More a fault of the politically correct crowd. I'm in New Zealand, but close enough :) And fair enough. I know we don't have the same problems with integration that folks in Europe and the US do. I've …

Hi 5eraph I understand that this subreddit comprises people from many walks of life, and that will lead to some diverse topics and discussions. But how much should we broaden that scope? We've done well so far by sticking by the idea that all topics should be about men's rights. When we start moving into, for example, men's lifestyles, there are better subreddits for that. Further, those unrelated topics tend to create confusion and distraction; just more areas for disagreement. The link you pos…

Because the economy is bad? Huh? So you should be encouraging immigration. Get down from your ivory tower ;) Which there is not. Ah, so this should be the primary goal of both parties. ...partly caused by feminism! Haha, I'll give you that, but as I said, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

What's wrong with 100,000 new immigrants arriving each month, provided there's a robust selection process in place? Immigrants help the economy in most Western countries. And what's wrong with a falling birth rate, provided there's a robust immigration process? Plus blaming feminism seems superficial at best. Most evidence points towards increasing socio-economic conditions for the fall in birth rate. This is further reinforced by viewing low socio-economic groups within America, and observing t…

Immorality does not equal illegality. Or at least it shouldn't. Morals are entirely subjective. It's moral in many cultures to circumcise girls. That doesn't mean the practise should be enshrined in law. Or that I will agree with it. To point: if you maintain people are stripped of agency when drunk, logically that means you don't think people should be held responsible for their actions when drunk. That's exactly what a lack of agency means. So drunk drivers can't be held responsible. People wh…

I would consider that immoral. But the alternative - stripping women of agency when drunk - is far, far worse than allowing subjective immorality to continue.

From my observations in my brief time being a mod, it appears that we have a very diverse range of users from every political ideology. That's a good thing. But there is a very small but vocal group of people who self identify as to the right on the US political spectrum who insist on framing all issues in a political light. They're giving everyone a bad rep; people on the right, and indeed all MRAs. I don't see this same insistence, or vitriol, from people who identify as on the left. All I can…

Big government certainly is - to an even worse degree. If you have a look at how the US Republican senators vote, they always vote to expand government programs which benefit business interests. Couple that with the advocacy for much greater waste of resources on wars. And there are other problems. Denial of peoples' rights on a basic level, such as religion and sexuality. But to address the other points, immigration isn't bad, provided it's done right. In fact, it's often essential for Western …

Sperm donor's do not put their names on birth certificates. Perhaps someone should have explained that to him then. I would have assumed that's the name of the biological parent. He wrote letters to the kid calling himself "dad". Why would a simple donor ever contact the child? That's not proof of conflict. "Dad" means biological male parent to me, and so I would sign such letters "dad" as well. He wasn't a simple donor. He wanted to be involved in their lives. But that doesn't mean he wanted to…

the old "keep it in your pants" was never expected to be followed or taken seriously. Great observation. I see men opting out of society all around me. While I agree with you, basic psychology shows that people are more willing to consume content which is more easily digestible. Think "bite sized". It's rare for server clusters to have just one copy of a given database. When you delete a copy, you're merely telling the server not to reference it for public access anymore. It will most likely reside in one form or another until the backups are no longer needed, or more space is required. Text is so easily stored that I think it highly likely that backups are kept for significant periods of time; especially given Reddit's propensity for catastrophic failures.

But how does that statistical correlation apply to the individual? This is the problem with using statistics in this manner: you don't understand they cannot be applied to the individual. Further, that such a figure does not determine contributing factors. I'll be the first to agree that this is likely partially to do with the "Disney effect" - the socially-instilled belief that all women are special and deserve the world handed to them. Thank you :) there is significant evidence that women are still expected to be caregivers/cooks/maids despite having a job This is fair, and I shouldn't have implied that women no longer experience gender stereotypes. There are many gender role trappings which both sexes need to be free of. I just believe that far more work has been done for women. Perhaps that's more of an indicator of how far women had to go? Either way, men require some help now.

There is certainly an innate component to gender. The trans community will be the first to point that out. But what they would argue is that gender is necessarily tied to xx and xy. I'm not so sure it is. But I subscribe to the notion that gender exists on a continuum.

I feel this confusion will prevail as long as we cling to our binary perception of gender. Things like segmented changing rooms, bathrooms, facilities, special requirements for body searches, different requirements for how police approach each sex, special provisions in in the military, segmentation in sports etc. I would very much like to move to a gender and sex blind society. I think that, ultimately, that's where we'll head.

Our primary focus is on men's rights. As far as I'm concerned, a FtM is treated the same way by the law as any other man, so we're fighting for their rights. A MtF used to be a man, and may still experience many of the same social injustices, so we're fighting for their rights. It's sometimes difficult due to the fluid nature of the gender of many transgender folk. Many of them actively resist gender categorization. There's nothing wrong with that, but once again, we focus on men's rights. One t…

Hi epicparadox In brief, the movement is quite organic in its origins. It wasn't a case of a group of men getting together to affect change. Rather, men are beginning to feel disenfranchised with society; disposable. We began to question why. Most of us have come to similar conclusions. Feminism did many wonderful things for women and women's rights, but men have been completely overlooked with regards to our rights and social roles. In many ways we are still stuck in our 1940s provider role. Wh…

It wasn't I who removed it, but I won't approve it. The moderation policy doesn't specify the conditions under which off topic comments should be removed. That doesn't mean they won't be removed.

No, you can only talk about men's rights issues. If you don't want to do that then seek another subreddit. What ma99ie said was directly relevant to the submission. Further, it was concise and extremely mild compared with the rhetoric you're putting forth.

This is your only warning. This subreddit does not encompass political ideology or racial issues. You'll be banned if you keep at it.

What an amazing submission. She's eloquent and extremely well-written. She knows the issues well, and doesn't shy away from pointing the finger at a movement which has gone out of control. Thanks for posting this, sjonsson. This is the sort of content I really enjoy reading here.

I'm just asking that the user substantiate the argument rather than resort to childishness. If your idea of a "conservative" moderator is childishness then I'm afraid we don't condone that sort of behaviour. No, I don't rate "Victorian social mores" as anywhere near "slut", for the reasons already outlined. I fear - and this may be hard to swallow - you're showing bias in favour of a political ideology, rather than focusing on specific issues as they arise and on their own merits. I know this ma…

I don't think this is a men's rights issue. Consider posting this to a more general male space like r/OneY. I think there could be valid arguments made to feminism about the merits of the PUA community, but shouldn't those be made in, say, r/feminisms?

None of the moderators agree with modern feminism in any way, I can assure you. But you knew that already. We are for equal opportunity. That's it. We try not to allow ourselves to be pulled into petty US political ideological discussions, because they just distract from the goal of this subreddit. Truth be told, the only people I've seen accuse me or any other mod of being a "feminist sympathizer" think women should be bare foot and in the kitchen. That's not what we're about.

I think we mostly agree. There's no harm in pointing out statistical trends. But we must be careful not to apply those trends to the individual.

Why isn't that important? I get very offended when someone calls me a "man child", "neckbeard", or accuses me of "mansplaining". If promiscuity isn't a value you support, say as much and support that proposition with a reasonable argument. I'm only biassed towards people who use insults in place of any reasonable argument. I didn't defect that in chavelah. Why is it that accusations of bias only come from people unable to support that accusation with reason?
/r/MensRights19/03/12 01:02 AM

I'll take a page out of your argument. I rip shreds out of anyone that uses the term "neckbeard" because it's a gendered insult. So if I didn't do it to you, I'd be sexist, right? I mean, that's your logic.
/r/MensRights18/03/12 07:43 AM

The only words I could discern which could be considered "shaming" are "fundies" and "neocon". In context, they appear to be used in a descriptive sense, rather than because of a lack of vocabulary. Chavelah certainly appears to look toward religion with a critical eye, but I don't see how that compares with calling her a slut. Would you explain which shaming language you're referring to? To be clear: if she was calling you a slut first, while I would encourage you to rise above the fray, I woul…

This is a good example of why most of the community looks at you disparagingly. This isn't an argument. It's a bitter rant, fraught with ill-considered shaming language. The insults do nothing in this context but highlight an acute inability to address the subject matter logically and critically. In short, you're coming off as an emotional, irrational fool. Any argument you hoped to convey was destroyed with the first utterance of "slut".

Moral crusaders, the religious, and (most importantly) politicians who use the battle cry "think of the children" to pass draconian legislation prevent such an objective assessment of the situation.

I don't see why this can't go both ways. Plenty of teenagers (boys and girls) are ready for sexual relationships. Hell, most teenagers do have sex. The Western world has collectively placed their fingers in their ears while shouting "LALALALALA" rather than deal with the fact that maybe some people are ready for mature relationships a little younger than 18. That said, many 15 years olds are idiots. They can be taken advantage of rather easily. How do we create a fair rule which adequately prote…

The presumption of equality is very important. It's the difference between writing off potential male nurse employees because "women are better at nursing" and assessing the quality of each candidate independent of their sex. I'd like to live in a society where people are assessed on their merit, and not their sex. We shouldn't be treating anyone a certain way just because of a static characteristic, since not everyone conforms to rigid gender roles. I fully support men who want to shake their s…

"Males" aren't a collective. We can't experience anything collectively. We are living, breathing, unique people, and you would do well to treat us as people and not as genitalia. So to answer both points: some men experience some privilege and disadvantage, and some women experience some privilege and disadvantage. There are millions and billions of unique privileges and disadvantages. They cannot be compared, and they cannot be added to some imaginary total. There is no objective way to say tha…

I prefer that her punishment be comparable to the punishment for the length of the crime she accused him of. That is, it should be proportionate to the type of crime of which she made the accusation. If rape carries a variable term of 5-20 years, that's what she should have been facing. Harsh punishments need to be meted out to deter this sort of crime.

No, you have the gist of it. Somewhere along the way marriage became less about two people living their lives together, and more like being in business together. Even if a person decides to coddle and pamper their significant other, treating them to a lavish lifestyle, it's automatically assumed that the stay-at-home partner is making an equal contribution to the partnership. This is of course ridiculous, but that is the basis from which alimony arose. So when one spouse manages to advance their…

I agree. I am far to the political US left, and I'm getting rather tired of being ridiculed for it. I'm a very outspoken MRA, and I don't deserve to be called the things they ascribe to "leftists". Something that serves to confuse the issue is that certain users like Jeremy use a different definition of "left". It's more of a catch-all term for any ideologies which he doesn't like. It's possible Factory2 does the same, but with so many different definitions floating around, it becomes impossible…

I usually support all sorts of content being posted here with tenuous relation to male issues, but this is a poorly written, fake story from 4chan about some "alpha as fuck" person's fantasy. The female character isn't even believable in any right. While it's likely that some women feel that sex can be used as a tool, portraying them all in this way (as you do when you frame this story as a kind of social commentary) only serves to scare away a lot of potential, rational, members - from both sex…
