I don't agree he deserves 50 years even if he's guilty. He's 17, and almost certainly he was inexperienced and frustrated at the baby and made a really fucked up decision whose consequences he likely did not know. Of course it's heartbreaking that the baby died, but why destroy another life about to begin when there was no malicious intent or evidence of criminal proclivities?

I would say the same whether it's a young father or mother. I'm not sure what I think an appropriate sentence would be, but I can tell you it's not even close to 50 years. And, yes, of course there would be a double standard. Notice that this article doesn't include the standard boilerplate "troubled and in need of treatment" disclaimer provided by the press when writing about every woman who has ever broken the law.

When a minor 17 year old male accidentally kills his own son and pleads guilty he gets 50 years in prison.

And when an adult woman kills her son by tying a plastic grocery bag around the baby boy’s head and denies her culpability till the very end when they find her son in the trash, she gets 200 hours of community service.

We need a final solution to the feminist question, seriously.
