My father's cousin divorced his wife just weeks after their daughter's birth. Shortly thereafter, he moved to another state, married another woman 2 years later, and had more kids. He sent timely child support checks for his daughter but refused to visit her.

Our family shunned this man at every major family event he dared attend (which, given all the contempt he received) was reduced to funerals. Whenever me and my dad would fight, he would say, "If I was my cousin, I would be in Pennsylvania by now!"

About a month ago, we found that his daughter went out to Pennsylvania, confronted him and demanded an apology for his abandonment. "Get a DNA test," he told her, "And I'll apologize."

Sure enough, she did, and it turned out that he was not her father. EDIT: He said that he knew all along that he was not her father but never expressed his knowledge of her rampant infidelity to anyone-- not even us, his own family. Aside from the fact that DNA testing was not available at the time, the less-accurate blood type testing certainly was, but he never requested it. He was willing to be painted as a villain for the rest of his life in order to spare his ex from being known as a cheating puttana in our tight-knit Italian community.

I love my son, who looks absolutely nothing like me. It would take a lot for me to test the genetics. Even then, as long as we are married, so what he's not my kid. If we get divorced, he shouldn't suffer additional hardships, so I'll deal with alimony ... BUT if she gets remarried, the new dude should pay for the instant family he's buying. Not saying I wouldn't help, but bitch made her choice.

It should be automatic, or the alleged father of any child who claims that her husband/boyfriend is the father, should have a paternity test. This should be done by law. Thirty percent of alleged fathers will have the shock of their lives. Those men who would never dream their wives fucked another man and got pregnant, now he has to spend several hundred thousand to raise another man's child.
