You know, there's just some things that maybe we ought not to joke about? I'm wiling to bet my bottom dollar that if there were a teenage-level book promoting female circumcision, under the guise of "humor," the media would have a shit fit...

Meh, just to keep things in perspective, banning books is bad, 'mkay?

We give shit like this power by paying attention to it and legitimizing it. Most teen girls don't want to read books period, and if they do, first stop is shit like Twilight, which is popular because by having an inhuman love interest, it avoids all kinds of things that cause friction in relationships because real men and real women have differences. There's some shit about not having sex in their relationship because it would be too intense and hurt her, so he abstains... because he loves her so much! Though my understanding is that this changes at some point in the sequels... I'd say most teenage girls have very little real interest in even pleasant relations with nutsacks, let alone cutting them open. I'd say this rates pretty low on the "insidious corruption" scale. Anybody this is gonna influence was a seriously fucked up cunt long before they picked it up.

From article comments, looks like the "castration fantasies" get aired as a play in the book. So its a book about a teenage girl having violent fantasies because teenage boys suck and finding a creative outlet for them while dealing with normal (not "aberrant", Post writer and 1950s refugee Andrea Peyser) teen behavior like drinking, drugs, and the sex.

I'll reserve judgment.
