A girl aged 17 has sex with a 14 yr old and is charged with a misdemeanor. A boy aged 17 has sex with a 14 yr old and is charged with a felony. Both are charged within 48 hours of eachother in the same city.

This is a repeat post. But it's from my home city (and yours too, Mr. Schaefer), so I don't mind. This is the part that really gets me:

Assistant District Attorney Jim Haasch, who filed both complaints, said at the time the charges were different because Guthrie has no criminal record--though online court records showed a pending battery charge at the time--and because Guthrie’s boyfriend is "almost 15." The boy is two months older than the girl Jepsen had sex with.

Obviously we don't know the exact birthdates, but we can make educated and reasonable guesses from this information. So let's lay out the facts here.

Jespen (M) has sex with his girlfriend
Jespen's girlfriend is 14 years and 8 months old (educated guess)
Jespen's girlfriend ran away from home
Guthrie (F) has sex with her boyfriend
Guthrie's boyfriend is 14 years and 10 months old (educated guess)
Guthrie has previously been charged for battery

Therefore, we can clearly see that Guthrie's boyfriend is an almost-15-year-old, while Jespen's girlfriend is a still just a 14-year-old. Because this makes a HUGE difference from a legal standpoint. After all, the law on the books clearly states that if the minor you are having sex with is an almost-15-year-old, then the state should mitigate charges to a misdemeanor. Right?

And the girl surely cannot have a criminal record, regardless of what the facts or court documents say. She's a girl, after all. They aren't criminals. The boy on the other hand, who genuinely does not have a criminal record, must be up to no good. And naturally we can be sure he was the one who made his girlfriend run away from home. She couldn't have possibly done that on her own. Again, she's a girl, and they don't make bad choices. And when they do, it's only because of male oppression.

Why is it that all 17 year olds are charged as adults? Why not change the legal age to be considered an adult 17 then?

i once read, women face lower rates of conviction proprtionately and go to jail less, when convicted,* because at a deep primordial level. women of good child bearing potential are seen as valuable commodities. (like cattle.)

how true is this? i do not know but i am doing some research. this sad reality has only the above as a slight advantage as well as being given chivalrous first dibs during evacuation scenarios in victorian times "women and children first". many more times this attitude has ramifications in the negative.

i don't have any clever answers or solutions.

Its bullshit, and it shouldn't be against the law, both are teens, what the fuck is wrong with america?

Most countries 14 is the legal age limit. Why is it that 80% or more of other countries don't have strict rules such as the usa about sex?

The usa needs to realize the puberty fairy doesn't fly down on a girls 18th birthday and give her breasts
