I don't doubt these numbers.

But if you're using "the percentages ... to argue whether, on average, it is fathers or mothers that pose a greater risk of harm to their children", as this author is, you need to calculate in that the number of households run by single moms are still almost five times more than single dads. You need to know that in 2-parent families, the mom is still more likely to be the person providing care (how much more? 5 times? 3 times? I'm not clear).

I'd also like to see the motivations broken down some. Are most child-murders committed by parents who are single? It shows that we need a much larger support system in place for when families break down.

The media paints murders by fathers as being motivated by revenge against the mother. The media also paints the mothers as being single, poor and uneducated and not knowing how to continue caring for her children.

None of these are any excuse, of course.
