I work at a gym full time as part of a scholarship I have. The section I work in is rather slow and boring, so I often visit other sections and ask if they need help with anything, or I just do their job if they're busy/slacking off (eg putting weights away in the general work out area).

While this has led to my superiors offering more official work for me (eg now I do personal training with customers), I wonder: Is making myself known as someone that you can rely upon for anything a good or bad thing? I want to foster positive relationships with coworkers that will allow for upwards mobility but I don't just want to be the guy that you call when you're going on break.
