It is not accurate. It is based on a false claim by the ACLU and Women’s March. Actual sentencing data presented by the department of justice shows the exact opposite is true. Men are more likely to be sentenced and sentences for males are over twice as long in cases of spousal murder. 6 years for women, 16 for men.

Its a guardian article citing ACLU as it's source.

And the link is a text wall , and I can't find the study they cited (aclu) , it might be there but I can't find it.

And the women's march link is a Facebook page that refutes it with sources in the first comment.

So its not so much "innacurate" as outright lies.

It is true, but there is a reason this article intentionally leaves out (as well as the ACLU data).

Women are hit with 1st degree murder of partners almost exclusively, meaning the murder was planned, premeditated. Men usually get 3rd degree or manslaughter, accidental killing or on the spot, not premeditated. So "murder" the stats in this article are true, women get harsher punishments, but that's because of the type of murder. This is done intentionally to keep it broad, because if it's just murder, instead of breaking it down, you can make it sound like women get punished harsher "for the same crime".

No different that theft. Stealing a car is worse than stealing a t-shirt. The punishments also reflect that.

This is intentionally misleading to create more victimhood shit. It's not a lie, but it's crazy misleading, like the earnings gap.

Edit: to add real life point of reference to this, the JCS Criminal Psychology videos. Literally 100% of the women in those planned to kill a specific person or people.

Perhaps... But, that probably ignores the fact that female on male murder is probably going to be first degree due to premeditation, or aggrivated with a weapon, where as a shove too hard can easily get the larger partner in jail for murder..

You really need to look deeper at the statistic, and the circumstances of each case to see what is really being suggested. I doubt many academic reaserchers with the skills to pull it off would be interested in putting that sort of multivariat analysis into this argument outside of the gender studies field.

And unfortunately gender studies is a field that appears to suffer from a preponderance of political activists who will make your life hell if you don't present a unified front.

Also their leading case study seems to be lucky to get off with what she got. She was participating in a business transaction, freaked out because of past trauma and took it out on the John... There is no mention in the article of him having done anything threatening (whether it is because the lawyers were incompetent enough to not argue so, or it goes against the narrative/assumption of the author that all intimate violence cases are equal. I'm not sure, Which it is.
