Whenever I make controversial opinions to my friends/acquaintances 1 to 1, they usually know where I’m coming from and agree. But many times when I make one online, I get hate.

I feel like the answer to this is quite obvious.

Firstly, the people you're talking to 1 to 1 already know you. They have at least some idea of your limits/boundaries, politics, generally who you are. They know the context from which your controversial ideas stem.

Secondly, in person or with people you are at least somewhat familiar with it is much easier to read tone and nuance (especially if you are speaking in person).

Thirdly, it is more likely that the people you surround yourself with in real life hold similar views to you - this is sort of the 'you are what you attract' point. They are more likely, though of course not guaranteed) to be sympathetic to your viewpoint.

Fourthly, that's just how the internet is. The internet is just an abyss full of people, when nuance and tone is hard to read and is often full of people from all walks of life who will take the worst possible meaning as their first one. Making un-controversial takes on the internet can get people hate.

All very straightforward to answer.

I don't know why you thought this question would get hate? The fact you assumed and said that also makes you more of a target for it.

People will often not tell you to your face their true feelings or agree with you to avoid discord or out of politeness and this happens more often than people care to admit.
