In the first post, the only reason OP isn't a asshole is because the girl had a mental breakdown or something and started crying and the brother had invited a stranger over for "hooking up".

But in the second post OP2 is labeled for the sole reason that she didn't pay her sister for the 3 hours she worked And second she didn't mention if its forbidden to bring over someone.

That's the kind of thing that is pretty standard for babysitting, I would question the mental capabilities of anyone who doesn't know not to bring a stranger into someone's house while they're not home.

I know In the second post most of comments are in opposition of this rule. Seriously the amount of bias is insane and skewed.

The guy brought a girl........"its completely wrong"

Girl brings a guy......"the mother didn't mention about not bringing anyone over"

And second she didn't mention if its forbidden to bring over someone.

If you're babysitting, you don't bring in someone who's a stranger to the parents (and especially the child) into the house. This should not need to be said.

No!

In situation A a young girl invited her BF over. They were "sitting on the couch" together. Sitting on the couch and chatting whilst babysitting is not much of a distraction. The person is also not a stranger. It sounds pretty PG. As the mom I'd still be mad that she didn't ask for permission. Reverse the genders and I would feel exactly the same way.

In situation B the young guy brought over a stranger specifically for a hook-up. Not PG and very distracting. Reverse the genders and I'd feel the same way.

Your post makes it seem like these are the same situation with genders reversed. They are not.

In both cases, they brought someone who the parent had 0 idea of, to the parent, both of them are strangers

I agree but that's not the question. Situation A wants to know 'AITA for not paying my sister for 3 hours' and Situation B wants to know 'AITA for kicking out someone who doesn't pay rent for having a tinder hookup in my house'. They're not the same question and not the same situation so can't really show a double standard.

Still this is a kid in both you shouldn't bring a someone over when YOUR BABYSITTING they are both in the wrong

[–]Other_Lingonberry234 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree that the kid should never have brought her bf over... but I think she was punished adequately (by getting grounded by her parents). As such, I think her sister should still pay her for the few hours she was there (that's the 'asshole' debate).

Situation B poster is asking if they are an AH for kicking out a non-rent-paying sibling who invited over a random to have sex. In their house. While watching their 3 year old.

It's reasonable for AH in situation A (boy or girl - being grounded equals punishment but they still 'worked' for 3 hours) and NAH in situation B (anyone - man or woman - staying with me for free and bringing strangers over for sex - regardless of whether there is a child present - is getting asked to find somewhere else to stay).

I'm merely making the point that these aren't similar enough to illustrate a double standard. The only thing the 2 posts have in common at all is that there was babysitting happening.

You're arguing that one is not wrong because the other one is more wrong?

They are both in the wrong. It doesn't matter how much at this point because they both did something they were not supoosed to do.

[–]Other_Lingonberry234 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not remotely. I agree with you - they were both wrong.

My point was that the question the poster was asking in each case was totally different so there's no real comparison to draw. Situation A asks if they are AH for not paying the $30 sitting fee to a kid who did something wrong, was suitably punished (grounded by parents) and still earned the $. Situation B asks if they are the AH for kicking out a non-rent-paying sibling for having a tinder hookup in their house while babysitting. They're just not the same.

Im pretty confused about this post, both babysitters got in trouble in a different way (adult man vs teenage girl). How is this double standards? I'm genuinely curious. In my opinion, both babysitters were assholes because it's common sense to notify the parents if you're going to bring someone over. Can't blame the parents for freakin out, especially if a mentally unstable person (first post) starts having a mental break down.
