Do you have non-nerdy hobbies or interests? Do you work out / do active things?

Personally, I've found hobbies, especially active ones are the best way to meet new people and make friends. Pick something and try it - martial arts, rock climbing, hiking, biking - theres groups out there for everything.

Bars are a waste of time and money IMO. There so many other more fun things you can do with your time.
