So the death of a defenseless baby boy is still not enough to require the adult consent of the person undergoing this "medically unnecessary" procedure? They admit it's unnecessary in an official statement, but yet those in power still won't extend the laws against harm to babies so that it applies to males as well. All that a death can muster in these callous cowards is a general warning. Fuck. What a clown world we live in. For some reason, it feels extra harsh to have the disposability of men and boys blatantly thrown in our faces like this, on top of the horrible knowledge of such a tragedy where an infant has no idea what is even happening to him, and then suddenly is subjected to unimaginable pain, suffering, and a slow, agonizing death.

Imagine the surviving kid, knowing he had a brother that died to the very thing that almost killed him. Terrible, terrible practice, the only one that should have any right to alter the genitals of a healthily formed child is the child him or herself when they are grown up.

It's always a reason for caution when the report of an event in one country is from an obscure news outlet in another country. If you read his remarks as reported in the mainstream Australian press they are less dramatically anti-circumcision than widely assumed on reddit. Instead he talks about the need for balance between the rights of the child and "the cultural and religious sides of the equation".

Indeed it would have caused great controversy in this country if he had made an explicitly anti-circumcision statement. The Jewish lobby is significant and there is a perceived need to placate the considerable Muslim immigrant population.
