Yes, Reddit is a hate site. Which is why I and many with me left. Why are you still here?

Well, https://kbin.social/m/men of course. And https://www.centreformalepsychology.com/male-psychology-the-magazine.

China where MOST men are permanently single This is simply not true. Yes, there are many single men, but it's far from a majority of men. I've been living in China since 2010, and I've seen how it's difficult for many young men to date, but most eventually do. Here are some links that a quick search brought up: https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20170213-why-millions-of-chinese-men-are-staying-single https://www.newsweek.com/china-has-nearly-35-million-more-single-men-women-1592486 https://www…

No. We moved to https://kbin.social/m/men. It's just that some community members are hesitant to jump ship and don't understand (or simply don't care) how destructive and unethical spez (the CEO) has behaved in the last few months and what that is going to mean for Reddit communities down the road. A long-time inactive mod decided to reboot this sub, and here you are.

Just a rare check-in. I am no longer active on Reddit. Come on over to https://kbin.social/m/men if you want to discuss male issues with me or other Rexxiters.

Thanks for all you've done! It was a pleasure working with you. I do hope you'll become active at kbin, maybe after a well-deserved break. The community would benefit from your equanimity and well-chosen words. Whatever you end up doing, I wish you all the best. So long and take care!

How do you figure it will get you banned? Who do you know that got banned for the kind of views we've been expressing here on LWMA? Be civil and make good arguments. That should count for something. Ernest, the kbin.social lead admin, does not seem interested in making a political stance, just in running a general purpose server. So, I'm not expecting any problems in this regard. And if they do pop up, we can move to another instance, or spin up our own.

Excellent article on the double-faced nature of feminism, which presents itself as egalitarian, but in practice is more often than not just straight-up misandrist. It references Karen Straughan's famous rant 'You're the true feminist. Some random person on the internet.' to counter oft-repeated motte-and-bailey defenses of feminism. I agree with the author that: When it comes to equality, feminists’ actions speak louder than their words. If you still think the term “feminism” is worth reclaiming…

The suggestion to do so was 95% upvoted... Clearly it was the will of the community.

The level of conversation there is nothing compared to this sub Because few people have made the move yet. It continues to grow tho, and we'll get a boost in a week when suddenly the majority of mobile apps stop working. You can be an early adopter and help establish our presence there. Yes, claiming the men namespace is a bold move, but I think it's going to work in our favor and help us to promote our views. Being a safe space was never our goal even here, except being a safe space for civil d…

And OP's response of basically "that's what we want!" That's misinformation. We do want to allow civilised debate (e.g. about the existence of patriarchy, or the nature of feminism), but not bigotry. Nobody's rights or existence are up for debate. We are explicitly egalitarian and will enforce that, just like we have done here. I vote for this sub going private or NSFW. The majority voted for keeping the sub open. NSFW was never an option, as it doesn't apply to the content of this sub. And admi…

/r/blind is specifically moving to their own Lemmy instance because of accessibility concerns: https://np.reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/14eaf68/open_alpha_rblind_a_community_on_lemmy_brought_to/ See also https://np.reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/14h3w8z/moving_to_rblindcom_and_links_to_beginners_guides/ It might be worth making an account on rblind.com and subscribing to kbin.social/m/men from there.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I have stepped down. Hope to see you on Kbin or Mastodon!

If you are on kbin.social, you should be able to find it easily. If you are on another instance, you may need to explicitly search for kbin.social/m/men and subscribe.

Will this sub and what’s on it still be up and available to view? That's how I left it. For how long it's going to stay that way is anyone's guess. Archived? https://theredarchive.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates I wish you the best either way. Thanks! You too!

Hand moderation over to someone if need be I have. /u/2717192619192 said he wants to keep this sub up, and there are a few others on the mod list. Nobody else applied. but don't expect us to follow into a space that isn't well designed, and where opposing the feminist orthodoxy is likely to get us banned. You're more likely to get banned on Reddit. And with the Fediverse we can always set up on another instance.

Text posts are fully functional, and one of the remaining mods can change the settings for link posts, if they so wish.

I feel like the community name is way too broad and attracts ALL men including feminists and conservatives. So we are having a broader reach. I think that's a good thing. We're still explicitly an egalitarian community, and can moderate accordingly. But if activity increases and the need for a more protected community arises, we can always establish offshoots, or moderate more strictly. That never stopped us here. It's just that the feminist community there predates ours. We just need to get in there and make our arguments, just like we've been doing here. And we have way more exposure there, because we make it to the frontpage and to the "related threads" sidebar of other magazines.

Heartfelt thanks for your work here. I wish you good luck in your future endeavors! Thanks! It's appreciated. Reddit was unique. I disagree with you there. Digg used to be pretty similar, and they made a similar mistake as Reddit is making now, putting money over community. And now people no longer know what Digg is (or was). hosting on a smaller, privacy-oriented social platform will cut down active readership 10x or more As the poll shows, we have less than 500 active members as is. We can reb…

So, the community has spoken. The majority of voters want to keep the sub open (for now), tho there is a sizeable minority for rejoining the blackout, which I must say pleases me. But a blackout is rapidly becoming a non-option, with Reddit admins strong-arming mods to reopen or be demoted [1] [2] [3] [4]. This is very scummy behavior, but by now totally expected. It only strengthens my resolve to try to move our community elsewhere. So, we are staying open for now, and are reconsidering our opt…

Because its devs are tankies and are known to remove content critical of China and North-Korea and to ban authors of such criticism on the instances they administer. See https://lemmy.pineapplemachine.com/post/5781 and https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379 As a human rights advocate I do not feel at home there. You have at least two weeks. And we do intend to leave the sub with read-only access. But Reddit might arbitrarily decide to ban the sub or appoint different mods who could remove content.

We're moving activity off Reddit, yes, but intend to keep the sub read-only to keep access to existing content. We're discussing details and alternative options such as only allowing links from kbin.social.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/06/23 02:33 AM
2

Neither. As spez has shown, communities here belong to Reddit Inc. And that's exactly the problem. I'm just trying to move the community to a platform that isn't greedy or arbitrary, and that offers a better outlook for the future. I also notice that the people who are most critical of my decision are ones that have very little prior activity in this community...

Is there a discord server for this sub. Not an official one. But community members, including /u/TheTinMenBlog, have started Discord servers. Do a search. The community here was/is great. Personally I think it is unethical to continue providing free labour to a company so clearly greedy and so arbitrary and unreliable. So, I stand by my decision to leave this platform on July 1, and move male advocacy activities to Kbin and Mastodon. I invite all community members to do the same. But if there are mods currently on the list or community members who wish to take on active moderation of this subreddit, our modmail is open, as I have repeatedly said. I will not stand in their way. Bu…

Exactly. It's unpaid labour for a company who is just seeking to fill its pockets, and taking away our community-built tools for curating this space. Fuck that. See, you and I just make different choices. This incident is the last straw for me. I'm done with Reddit. The only other active mod here has indicated that moderation will be impossible without the third-party app he's using. I have never heard of kbin before this post. It's a relatively new kid on the block in the fediverse. But you may have heard of Mastodon or Lemmy before. No other sub I participate in is transferring there. Maybe not now, but come July more will. I went there, and it neither looks nice nor does it have any content. Looks are subjective, but I think it looks good enough. Functionality is more important. And content, that's a matter of community members willing to participate. Rexxit is only barel…

YouTube is quite different, because serving video is much more costly. A text-based forum is way easier and cheaper to run. Why Mastodon over Twitter? Because there is not one person or company having a stranglehold over it.

Jfc way to destroy the only decent male community here. You can blame spez for that. Just give mod to someone who wants to do the work or something, No one has applied. And I wouldn't recommend it, because the company is making it harder. no one cares about this dumb bickering between mods and Reddit A lot of users are also affected. And when mods leave, it will have repercussions on the quality of discussions. The only dumb thing is not to take this "bickering" seriously.

Did anyone seriously think it would be limited to a two-day blackout? Of course further action is being planned, now that Reddit once more has given its users and mods the middle finger. Lots of mods and power users will be leaving the platform on July 1st if Reddit doesn't reverse course. And there have been successful protests in Reddit's history. We got rid of Ellen Pao. We got rid of Aimee Knight. Now it's time to get rid of Steve Huffman, or we will leave the platform. Reddit is nothing wit…

Read up on the decentralized nature of the Fediverse. It's easy to spin up your own instance if you want, and still be part of it. Most instances are owned by individuals who are open source enthusiasts. It may not be perfect, but it's surely better than current alternatives. There is no corporation behind Kbin, but if it grows to hundreds of thousands or millions of users, then an organizational structure for server admin and the involved finances will somehow need to be set up. That's a bit of a "No True Scotsman" argument. Not really. Because I'm talking about liberal values, which are all about freedom and letting people live their own authentic lives. Just because nowadays there are plenty of people who call themselves liberals who betray those values, doesn't mean that liberal values changed. It's just that people have moved away from it. We should convince people to return to true liberal values.

Feminists come in many forms. Many start identifying as one because they believe the propaganda that it is about gender equality (e.g. the Maisie Williams types). But feminism is not about gender equality (with the exception of some very marginalized school of thought within the movement). Feminist ideology is, and has always been, deeply misandrist, painting all men as oppressors regardless of individual behavior.

Rainn is I think a reliable enough source for the gendered split in sexual assault victims. If we accept, as we should, that homelessness is a gendered issue, since something like 70-80% (depending on country and study) of homeless people are men, we have to accept that sexual assault is also a gendered issue. No, we do not accept RAINN's manipulated statistics. A closer look reveals that sexual assault is NOT a gendered issue.

That's really sad. They don't recognize their own bigotry. Only a small number of men are rapists. Too many for sure, but not enough to demonize half the population... And let's not forget that about the same number of women are rapists too. But nobody talks about that. And lynching? What century do they live in?

Getting very bad misoginy vibes from there I don't know how you can say that. We do not allow misogyny at LWMA. Just make sure to distinguish feminism from women. One is an ideology, the other is a gender. We love women and embrace their equal rights. But insofar feminism isn't in practice egalitarian, we oppose it. More often than not it's an obstacle to treating the genders equally.

It's analogous to blaming black men for violence. It's treating people as part of a group instead of as an individual regardless of immutable characteristics. The majority of people getting accused of rape falsely still fucking did it. You don't know that and you can't know that. It's true feminism which has fell out of mainstream. No. While there have been egalitarian strands of feminism, they have always been marginal. Mainstream feminism, from the 1848 Declaration of Sentiments on, has been misandrist and historically revisionist, claiming that men as a collective have oppressed women. The patriarchy "theory" of radical feminism is totally inline with the bigoted views of mid-19th century feminist activism. So yeah, we do hate feminism. But we embrace the marginalized…

'Toxic masculinity' as a term is toxic. So stop using it. And latching on to a grammar point is derailing and ignores the actual message. Men get bombarded with messages that masculinity is toxic or has toxic components, and that is what we need to fight. Not some asinine grammar point. Gender is the behavioral component of sex. Or as Bret Weinstein likes to say: sex is the hardware, gender is the software. Without gender (the behavior, the software), sex isn't going to work, so our species would die out very quickly.

You don't get procreation (the biological component) without mating behavior (a.k.a. gendered behavior). As for the nature of our species, I was hinting at us being dimorphic (male and female), which gets expressed in gendered behavior. Sure, we can do without the rigidity of traditional gender norms. But to abolish gender seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

Nobody says my son is bad because he's white They sure do. Starting with Robin DiAngelo and Ibram X Kendi. There are scores of other 'woke' activists who spread the same anti-white racism. Yes, we focus on men's issues, but we don't need to close our eyes to other problems. Because indeed men are targetted with hateful messages from "the Left". But white men even more so.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/04/23 05:19 AM

Yes. It's not something that most of us get taught when growing up. We must learn it through painful experience.

At which point you learn to just let her hurt you for fear of her doing something worse. I understand the dynamic. But one should not learn to accept abuse. One should walk away. Don't stay in toxic relationships like that.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/04/23 07:46 PM

This is why it's very important from the very beginning of the relationship to never give in to such temper tantrums and emotional manipulation. Do not accept any abuse.

Yeah, I only was a mod there for like a week or two. The head mod retired and appointed three people who had expressed interest, without any further discussion, and gave us carte-blanche to do what we saw fit. Or so we thought. One of the first things I did was to ban the worst offender at the first opportunity. But that wasn't taken kindly, and my decision was undone without discussion. That's when I stepped down.

But the way misandrists claim misogyny is systemic and a more serious and pressing issue and how they trivialize misandry to be a non-issue, that's what gets me. Yes, so we show them how misandry is also a serious problem. But to turn around and do the same to them? Trivializing women's problems? How is that going to help us?

Misogyny is nowadays used as 'sexism against women'. As per Wikipedia: "Misogyny is hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women. It is a form of sexism that is used to keep women at a lower social status than men". Nobody actually hats them. Certainly there are some people who do actually hate them. That women in certain fields are still seen as incompetent or less competent than men. Some fields still have an "old boys club" mentality. Hostile attitudes prevalent in some heavily male dominated fields. Abortion restrictions in certain countries.

Patriarchy means whatever they want it to mean. It suggests that men are bad. But they'll retreat motte-and-bailey style to a more socially acceptable definition when called out.

I downvoted your post because it's simply not true. There is systemic or institutionalized misogyny still around. Maybe not as prevalent as misandry, but to deny it exists is to deny reality. And you're doing the men's rights movement no favors by claiming this. We can acknowledge that women face problems too, and work towards a more egalitarian society.

Unregulated capitalism makes love/sex more of a transaction because it encourages women to look for a higher earning partner (the one that satisfies them the most economically) rather than the one that they are most deeply attracted to (that satisfies them the most emotionally). Hypergamy is an evolved trait that has nothing whatsoever to do with capitalism.

After doing more research on this, it just screams of anti-communist propaganda. The “killed millions of its own people” line is always fabricated & exaggerated. No. It's literally true. The USSR was very authoritarian and killed millions of its own people. I would think the majority of socialists would agree that the USSR is not a good example of a socialist state. And even if you do think it did some things right, you should definitely condemn it for its failures. Cathy Young is shitting on the USSR because she has personal experience of how shitty it was. Start with defining masculinity. That's hard enough to do without falling into traditional tropes. Tho some of them have an evolutionary kernel of truth in them. Needing permission to get access to surgical sterilization is one issue that iirc has been addessed or is in the process of being addressed so is a minimal concern for women as of date, This is in practice very much still an issue. I agree it’s very hard to find feminist spaces that haven’t been corrupted by bioessentialist, radical feminist ideology in which males are always oppressors and females are innocent victims of oppression. However, it’s also hard to find men’s advocacy spaces that aren’t overrun with violent misogyny, and yet they exist and are worth finding. False equivalency. Feminism has radical misandrist ideas at the core of its ideology, going back to the 1848 Declaration of Sentiments. The men's rights mo…

I don't necessarily think the theory itself is faulty as if we're willing to agree that toxic feminity is a thing, so must toxic masculinity. We don't agree with either, because it suggest something inherent to masculinity (or femininity) is toxic.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/03/23 10:19 AM

I just don't think we should give away "not seeing color" to abusive racists. It's not inherently a wrong statement. We should all strive to be color agnostic in our behavior. How else would you put it? But anyway, my point wasn't to attack traditional gender roles, it was to simply say that there shouldn't be a cultural norm saying men absolutely have to pursue. It should come down to personal choice. That I can agree with.

I'm very positive (indeed excited) that he brings the issues to the mainstream Agreed. It's good to have a voice that the left listens to that brings up these issues. But when he says "the goal here has to be to make them sound crazy" (them being MRAs) then he is no longer just careful. He's opposing us, the people who really advocate for boys and men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/03/23 11:37 AM

In an attempt to find the MRA he anonymously referenced, I just came across this interesting article: https://ifstudies.org/blog/right-diagnosis-wrong-prescription-richard-reeves-of-boys-and-men I think this hits the nail on the head. Reeves very much follows a MensLib style feminist approach to the issue (which he correctly diagnoses), and does not admit MRAs are right, nor does he propose the more radical solutions that are needed.

He thought those things existed, but when prompted by an MRA found that they don't. And instead of saying "actually, Mr. MRA, you're right, that is a scandalous oversight", he says that "the goal here has to be to make them sound crazy"... Any respect I once had for Richard Reeves has now dissipated in the face of this irrational and poisonous take.

1 and 3 are definitely not correct. You are definitely overstating that. #1 appears to be true, tho the science may be inconclusive. #3 is also true, at least in many countries. Teaching is not seen as a career, especially when looking at actual hours worked. Someone who has the qualifications to become a teacher can usually find better paid and less stressful jobs in the business sector.

He's running Twitter into the ground although I'm pretty sure he's doing that on purpose. Maybe he's bitten off more than he expect to chew, but I don't think it's on purpose. At the very least we can be thankful to him for giving journalists access to the Twitter Files, which exposes some very serious corruption of the US government and its Ministry of Truth style interference with social media.

I think there are ways we could accommodate boys' learning styles and need for more physical exploration and experimentation, rather than pure book work, which I think would be far more productive than simply holding them back a year. They are no longer just about “gender equality”. They never were. Even in the 1848 Declaration of Sentiments they demonized all men as a monolith wanting to totally subjugate women. Feminism has always been an anti-male hate movement and female supremacy movement.

I'm also bothered by this notion that the patriarchy is a myth that I see so often on Reddit. Are the people who say this trying to imply that they have a better grasp and reading of our material reality than Marx and Engels and Lenin, that all very much considered the patriarchy one of the superstructures of capitalism and private property? It's an argument that Warren Farrell used to make, but that appears to be based on a misreading of outdated statistics. I'm not sure if he now uses newer sources or if he still makes that argument. Men are not the ones getting pregnant. As much as I want men to have more birth control options, certainly we must recognize that women have way more risk and more serious consequences.

None of that amounts to men collectively oppressing women. E.g. male serfs had no influence whatsoever on political marriages. Generally life was pretty bad for pretty much everyone. It was the ruling class that made most choices, the ruling class that oppressed the common people, and while they were mostly led by men, they did include women. That isn't patriarchy. That's oligarchy.

He is not a feminist in the sense of someone who believes in the patriarchy theory. And I doubt many prominent feminists if any would agree that he is a feminist. You really think that all men conspired collectively to oppress women collectively? It's a blatantly ridiculous notion. There were queens sending men to die on the battlefield. There were upper class women who had male slaves or serfs. Certainly those women were not oppressed by those men. Yes, there were certain power structures, which sucked for a lot of people. Yes, many men had on average more power, but also more responsibilities. But there was no conspiracy of men against women. men retain…

The "original spirit" of feminism was revealed in the 1848 Declaration of Sentiments: The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her. Even back then they treated men as a monolith and assigned the most terrible motivations to us. And the document goes on and on like that. I see no other conclusion then that feminism has always been a hate movement.

Feminism is by and large the false belief that historically and currently women as a group have been oppressed by men as a group (known as the patriarchy). There are exceptions, but they are not relevant at a societal level.

You can be a woman's rights advocate without calling yourself a feminist. As an egalitarian one can be a women's advocate and a men's advocate. But I think you're being too kind on feminism. I'd say it's logically inconsistent to align oneself with a movement that demonizes men, and simultaneously trying to advocate for them.

Individual solutions instead of blanket discrimination. If this rapist was pre-op, send to a men's prison; if post-op to a women's prison. If she's a threat to others, put in solitary confinement. There's no good reason to discriminate others based on the transgression of one individual.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/02/23 11:53 PM

No. The issue is that excluding all trans women because one of them is a convicted rapist is a form of bigotry. We don't accept it when it happens to men, so we don't accept it when it happens to others either.

The two sides on that just slightly disagree about who to exclude. They are both radical bigots. Erin Pizzey already found this out in the 1970s. Edit: Oh, look at that! We triggered a feminist, who reported this comment and the post as "promoting hate". I'm sorry, but being a feminist is not an immutable characteristic, but a choice, and thus not a protected identity. And in fact, it is the feminists who are promoting hate (towards men and trans women). So, stop wasting time.

Reproduction carries a far greater cost and risk for women than men, which you expect to result in women being more picky when it comes to choice of partner and reality generally bares this out. See how easy that was? You would expect to lead to men…

SJWs were already a phenomenon before A+ became a thing. A+ certainly did not invent it. Also, misandry was already made mainstream by feminism in the 70s and 80s. And how do we reclaim science and rationality This is the real question. And unfortunately, the left by and large does seem entirely uninterested in doing so.

More often than not it's an interplay between nature and nurture. People are complex beings. But denying that biology plays a role is unscientific.

You may not generalize women as a group, without explicitly allowing for exceptions, as per rules 5 and 6 in our moderation policy. You may generalize feminists, as it is a choice to identify as one. Tho it would be good to differentiate as well, in most cases, because there's a world of difference between a feminist like Christina Hoff Sommers and one like Andrea Dworkin. That these feminists are women is incidental to their views. Not all women are feminists, and not all feminists are women.

One way to look at it is seeing them as energies that everyone has a mix of, but men on average having more masculinity and women on average having more femininity. This is the approach used by for example David Deida, in his book The Way of the Superior Man. Another approach is to look at what traits men show more of and are more central to what it means to be a man, without seeing those as exclusive to men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/02/23 03:25 AM

Positive masculinity is just masculinity, as toxicity isn't part and parcel of what it means to be a man. The problem is that society has changed rapidly since the 1950s, and while a lot has been achieved to liberate women, we have fallen far behind in liberating men and redefining masculinity for the 21st century. It's a confusing time to be a man. This is exacerbated by the fact that generally it's not looked upon favorably when we men do something for ourselves. But we are the ones that need …

Would replacing all the words incel with blackpiller then be ok ? Yes.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/01/23 11:56 AM

Also, one last point, an incel is not an involuntary celibate, it's a person who subscribes to a hateful ideology, which can be found on certain forums. It's the hatred of women that makes an incel not the inability to form relationships. Except that that's wrong. Incel means involuntary celibate. But they get pressured into lower paying jobs, similar to how men get pressured into more physically demanding jobs which lead to them dying earlier. (There are other factors too, of course.) If men should be compensated for the latter, then why would women not deserve compensation for the former?

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 11:50 PM
1

I don't think we can compare these issues. People want to marry the person they love, and gay people couldn't, for legacy religious reasons. In the case of retirement, people want to stop working as they get older. A gender difference in retirement age makes no sense and is based on outdated ideas of women being weaker and in need of more care.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 12:48 PM

you are advocating for enhanced inequality No, I'm not. I don't see how you can argue that. I'm arguing for the most straightforward equality under the law: everyone gets to retire at the same age. You're just trying to make it more complicated and introduce a huge overhead. How is it equal opportunity to be forced to pay so much into a retirement account (SSI) and then get nothing from it?, all of it given out to others instead? You'll get as much of it as anyone else, under the same rules.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 12:47 PM

It kinda sounds like victim blaming when you call the life expectancy gap a lifestyle choice. Of course I'm not victim blaming. But just as we say that the wage gap is due to personal choices, I don't see a convincing argument for why it's different for the life expectancy gap. It's a societal problem as much as an individual problem. There's a social norm that male life is more disposable or less valuable than other human life. Yes, and that's something we should fight. That's what I thought. And I was like that for a certain period, but I decided that no, I shouldn't be deterred by the bad apples since I agree with the principles of the movement: fighting for equal rights for men and women. The bad apples are a minority of loudmouths. We can do better.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 01:32 AM
9

You're right. But aren't men in most countries free to choose to go against those pressures? I mean, this is basically the mirror argument for the wage gap.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 01:30 AM
1

Some of us are both, but I don't know how many. I would guess the majority, by far. Some eschew the label (because of bad apples in the movement) but agree in principle. Similarly, some here identify as feminist but oppose mainstream feminism. I mean, I could identify as equity feminist. I just don't think it's useful.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 01:22 AM
27

Some research suggests there is no or little biological basis for the life expectancy gap, which would mean it's mostly down to different life style choices. So I'd argue we should treat everyone equally and set the retirement age at the same age regardless of sex. This also keeps things simple from a legal perspective.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/23 01:10 AM

I can't answer that, as I'm happily married. And I suspect that over time fewer and fewer men will self-identify as incel, because of the association with misogyny. But we have some people here who have identified as such. The term itself does not necessarily mean that all incels are misogynists, so the mod team here welcomes all non-misogynistic incels.

Not since the 1848 Declaration of Sentiments. Which doesn't mean there aren't feminists who are actually for equality, but they are not in leading positions.

Then why call yourself feminist? If the organizations and academics and lobbyists are not actually egalitarians, why identify with the same label?

When will I suddenly have balls and be able to date girls without screwing shit up and constantly feeling inferior? When you face your fears head-on and don't let them stop you, and consequently get more experience and confidence, little by little. Yeah, you will fail a lot, like practically everyone else. But you will learn what works and what doesn't, and become more successful.

You can't reason someone out of a position that they didn't reason themselves into. I dislike that saying because it isn't true. I was indoctrinated into Christianity as a child, but once I was open to reason, I got myself out of it. Likewise, I was led to believe that feminism was egalitarian, but through reason and evidence I saw that was largely untrue. People can change.

The idea that females* have an evolved drive to look for a provider, sure. That can be observed. But that does not mean this is expressed in all individuals. Nor that individuals don't have other traits that make the whole thing more complex, or other desires that override this. As you indicated as well. But I mostly object to the idea "that women are biologically forced to be unloving." That is just blatantly untrue. * = word choice is intentional, as this is true for many mammals, not just hum…

It's pure nonsense. Yes, evolution may have given females the drive to look for providers, but it's not like we humans are slaves to such drives and can't rise above that. It's a similar monolithic view of gender that feminism has. We need to consider the individual. And then we see that there most certainly are women who are motivated by love, or altruism. They aren't all robotically looking to reproduce with a male with good genes. Humans are more complex than that.

When a man does something bad, that somehow reflects on other men and informs us (negatively) about masculinity. But the reverse does not seem to be true: when a man does something good, it is seen as an exception or as the bare minimum that can be expected. It's frustrating.

It's primarily driven by evolved instincts for mate selection. We see this in many vertebrate species. Since pregnancy is quite an investment in terms of time, resources, and potential harm to the female's body, the female is driven to select the best possible mate she can get in terms of genes and provider skills, to give better chances to her offspring.

Patriarchy is just a term to blame men in general, instead of society (made up of men and women). As such it is misandry. And this is at the core of the ideology of most branches of feminism. That is what (most of) feminism does: demonizing men and masculinity. So yes, we are at odds with them.

To quote myself: As per rule 8 in our moderation policy, we do not allow the word incel to be used as an insult, and by extension we do not accept it to be used as denoting a toxic person by default. We've always treated it as literally involuntary celibate. The fact that they are romantically or sexually unsuccessful does not say anything about their moral character.

I would have ended my life if it weren't for therapy and meds. And so would many other men. They do help long term. So please get out of here with your dangerous and misguided doubts. We aim to help men, not push them off the cliff.

Nine months of gestation is a bottleneck. The time it takes to copulate is not. And men only need to do one of those. Of course there is more to it, such as providing food and a safe home. But then there's this fact(oid?)...

LOTR has a lot of great male characters. Something for every age group. There's Sam and Frodo, Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf, for example.

It's mostly coming from specific women (who have had bad experiences) and incomplete advice. Which is why you should ignore what they are saying in terms of general dating advice. They are really not teaching you how to be successful in dating. In fact, almost everything you list in this comment sounds more like an elaborate shit test than anything to be taken seriously. So: don't listen to what they say. Calibrate your social skills to pick up on their nonverbal behavior and what is successful.

Woman is a gender. Feminism is an ideology. It's not the same. Especially when that ideology habitually demonizes men.

No. Definitely not. We should care more. We should make sure that the boys and men we care about get the help they need, get equal rights and treatment, and will be appreciated for who they are and what they do. Boys and men matter. They deserve to be respected and loved.

I don't think copying the feminists will be enough, because of the empathy gap. We'll need to make a much stronger case.

Everything we do and say is predestined by evolutionary psychology I don't think anyone here is making that exact argument.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/12/22 03:11 PM
7

What I see as a potential source of confusion here is that you seem to conflate several arguments into one, whether unintentionally or intentionally (maybe because you don't see value in distinguishing them). Please correct me if I'm wrong. There is the argument from egalitarian advocacy: all people deserve to be treated equally, and no one should be considered of less value or as expendable. I think we all agree with this principle. Then there is the argument from societal treatment: society do…

Admins are paid employees of Reddit. You won't see them in this sub. Moderators are volunteers who take care of a subreddit. We dislike it when feminists (or others) generalize men. We should avoid making the same mistake. Please read our moderation policy for details. Plenty of feminists will still call us misogynists, but they won't find any actual evidence for that here.

Men have some privileges, and women have other privileges. Don't just cherry-pick one phrase from my argument. And as I said: We're human rights advocates and egalitarians, who see that men and women both have problems and that we're in this together. So we'd better figure out ways to approach problems holistically. Clearly you have not read our mission statement, which goes into detail on our left-wing ideas.

Evolutionarily innate tendencies do not express themselves in the same way in every individual. It's undeniable that evolution drives us to have babies, but some of us do not feel that, for whatever reason. In a similar way, as a species we have two eyes, but some are born blind. It's part of the evolutionary machinery that exceptions happen. Sometimes these are beneficial and other times they are not.

Yes, this is a left-wing sub. What makes you doubt that? We advocate for equal rights and equal treatment for all. We oppose those who demonize groups based on innate characteristics. Have you read our mission statement? And I need to make a correction. There are some here who still identify as feminists. But most of us realize that feminism is a lost cause because of the rampant bigotry in their dogma, and even more so in their praxis. So you want the in and out group to be those who think men …

When we say "we're in this together" we mean men and women are in this together (fighting inequality and moving on from limiting traditional gender roles). Obviously feminism doesn't think so, because they dogmatically pose that men are already privileged and women are not, which is a very twisted view of reality. We're not feminists. We're human rights advocates and egalitarians, who see that men and women both have problems and that we're in this together. So we'd better figure out ways to app…

Yeah, it's a bit confusingly worded. But taking the context into consideration, it becomes clear that they mean that feminism attacks women too when they disagree with feminist dogma.

Not exactly an actor, but more of a TV personality: Anthony Bourdain. In my mind he was one of the very best documentary TV makers. But he struggled with addiction and depression, which eventually got the best of him.

Key post and thread to read is this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates/comments/oosect/lwma_official_statement_regarding_recent_comments/ We view them as controlled opposition because of their defense of feminism. Any comments there that are critical of feminism will be removed. But you can't effectively advocate for men if you're not allowed to criticize the prevailing ideology that addresses gender issues (and poisons the well with bad ideas). Despite that, there are quite a f…

This is a very twisted view of sex and most certainly not true. But I'm guessing this is just a defense mechanism. Drop that view along with your friends. And work on your social skills. I think that's where the key of your problem lies.

We're not strictly monogamous as a species, as evidenced by cheating being very common and a number of cultures practicing polygamy.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/12/22 03:07 AM

It wasn't meant to be humiliating, but rather as an explanation of why it's not acceptable.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/11/22 11:03 PM

Human beings are monogamous for a reason. We are a bit unique among mammals for this, and many say that it boils down to our intelligence. This bit doesn't hold up and is scientific half-truth at best. But the importance of fathers is something worth discussing. Edit: Unfortunately the rest of the comments focus on OP's misunderstanding of monogamy, rather than the more interesting point of the importance of fathers. Locked and removed.
