Not a lawyer, but I presume making misogyny a crime would just be an added justification for punishing more harshly those that commit crimes against women (compared to those that do so against men)?

This is the first time I can agree with something Boris has done.

The sentencing for men is already high. Whereas for women there are programs to rehabilitate them instead of sending them to prison unless their crimes are very serious.

Here’s a link explaining it in more detail. Of course they mention that only female offenders were victims themselves at some point which made them turn out this way.

Good move by Boris Johnson to insist on doing better with the existing legislation. Also notice the subtle misandry of the TV interviewer.

I'm all against misogyny and everything, but a better question is if misogyny was made a hate crime will it be enforced fairly? What will be considered misogyny? Because I know damn well people often stretch the definition of misogyny out. Is criticism of feminism going to be misogyny? How about discussing men's rights? Will there be bias in enforcement of this law and if misogyny is a hate crime will misandry be considered hate crime as well?

I guess it's one of those laws that sounds good, but in reality is pretty much impossible to enforce.

Carceral feminism on oone side, trying to make everything they find distasteful into a criminal offence. Tories on the other side telling us the main issue in policing is rich white women and their incredibly tiny risk of becoming victims of violent crime.

Someone please tell me if I'm being stupid but does it matter? If someone commits a stabbing that's a stabbing, no matter the gender of the victim. I don't see the point in changing this aspect of the law?

I haven't voted Conservative in a long time. My last key votes have been: Labour, Labour, Remain in EU, Green party. I'm pretty damn left leaning (as the sub suggests, despite people claiming this to be some alt right haven).

That said, I cannot vote for this Labour. I heard a Labour MP saying on the radio that women are "second class citizens" here, and that no man is afraid walking the streets at night.

Apparently, men like me (disabled, beaten and haven't been out by myself at night for years due to fear) do not exist. Men like me are simply invisible to Labour, or we aren't real men. Pick your poison.

So what am I to do? I don't particularly want to vote Conservative, but Labour have totally shut me out. They need to change drastically otherwise they are gift wrapping power to the Tories. Do Labour even want power anymore????
