I'm an oldster, and when I went to college, we didn't have Gender Studies. There were definitely a lot of young women signing up for engineering degrees, though, but 99% of them dropped the curriculum before the withdraw date, once they determined that ∫ wasn't just an artsy way of starting a mathematical statement.

So instead of majoring in gender studies, they'd major in psychology or communications, and spend most of their days taking drugs, drinking heavily and sucking frat cock. The ones who weren't trust fund babies and had to find employment would take general studies towards a teaching certification, or pursue nursing, which required more study but paid more.

Meanwhile, over on the cold dark side of campus where we actually had to learn something and didn't have time to party because of the mountain of homework and study, it was just a sea of men after the first couple of weeks of first semester, and thereon to graduation.

It is a huge surprise to me as well, considering how easy it is to pursue a career in STEM, comparing to the extenuating intellectual effort required by gender studies. I suppose this is why they prefer low responsibility jobs, as the ones at fast-food restaurants, so they can take a break from the fantastic intellectual challenges they had to face.
