Crosspost "I was banned from askfeminists for expressing concerns over inegalitarian beliefs and attitudes." from /r/bannedfeminists:
I generally always identified as a feminist. I've had numerous friends who have been in abusive relationships and several who have told me they've been assaulted.
And I use TikTok. Most of my FYP is feminist tiktokers and memes. But I started to see people responding to a person named Romaarmy. And I got curious so I checker her out.... And I found I didn't disagree with a lot of what she was saying.
She would bring up that boys and men are similarly abused and people would rag on her for it.
And at first I mentally justified it because she did quite frequently attack feminism and I thought "how could she be against equality for women when she's known so many who are treated unequally in society"
But as I watched more I found out she talks a lot about how men are treated in similarly unequal ways. But they get zero attention. And I thought "this should be talked about, isn't it a feminist issue too?"
So I went online. After reading through feminist pages talking about men's issues I came to a certain mens issues sub (menslib) who talk about men's issues through a feminist lens. And I thought WOW! this is what we need! These issues are feminist issues too!
but as I started reading I came across a few posts that were inconsistent. And one or two that were critical of feminists. This one in particular caught my eye cause I've had friends who have vented to me about stuff like this.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MensLib/comments/569eho/why_feminist_dating_advice_sucks/
So I went to the askfeminists sub. Because I thought asking about it would help me to understand more why even on a pro feminist sub there were so many viewpoints critical of feminism. And they wouldn't allow me to make any posts to ask about it
So I looked through the sub and found several examples of self proclaimed feminists just dismissing people based on their gender. Or assuming that when they talked about their issues they were doing so to discount women. Just giving people the least charitable interpretation.
And I wrote a comment expressing that this is not the movement I thought I supported. For this I was banned.
