Hey ladies!
So I’m 30F and life has been a bit rough for me. I grew up in an abusive home and while I have become a responsible adult, I’ve lost some friendships along the way in my 20s.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “sounds like you’re the common denominator”? And YES- I definitely played some part in the end of those friendships. I don’t deny that. I am still doing the work with my emotions BUT it seems most of my remaining friends are hellbent on judging me based on how I used to be, and use it to shut me down now all the time. I’m sick and tired of having people make rude or condescending remarks to me then being told that I’m being dramatic when I ask what the problem is. I’m afraid my reputation is already tarnished here and if they refuse to accept how kind I am now then I’ll take my efforts elsewhere. For example, I wanted to spend a few hundred supplying food and alcohol for a party this summer and a “good friend” of mine was utterly unsupportive the whole time, and asked me “why would you do that for those people when no one would do it for you?”…but I’m sensitive for having an issue with this apparently.
I’ve gone through some big personal changes and want to focus on my social connections this year so that I can leave the negative nancies behind and have a complete fresh start. They openly admit to speaking to me in ways they don’t speak to others but Im just supposed to deal? FDS, I am tired.
I am just getting into yoga but how friendly are people there? Do people just find a spot and stick to themselves? How do you go about exchanging contact info with potential new friends? What other groups have you had success making friends in?
