So far I have been looking at many social issues groups such as this subreddit other men's rights subreddits, feminism subreddits and some race + gender subreddits and a common trend I often find within these sites is that people tend to form a mob mentality where they begin to delve into their beliefs to the extent that they start believing ALL people of a different or opposing group are bad.
Examples of this was a post on a feminism subreddit where they say that All men are pigs or scum because of one rape case and on some men's rights subreddit there are posts which vilify women often with the message that boils down to ALL women besides the ones supporting us are bad and take advantage of insert reason here.
I honestly want to know why this stuff happens. I know that subreddits that focus on the more political side of things tend to create echo chambers that tend to give a lot of people who get the wrong messages the reasoning they need to be horrible people or hateful individuals who harass anyone with different beliefs than them.
Why cant people just learn to not overgeneralize and accept that people are unique and that most of what they see is handpicked issues that suit a political sites intentions and might not necessarily represent the world and the human race as a whole. Just because a man or a woman does anything bad to other people does not mean that men or women are bad or evil as a whole.
Please do not take this the wrong way I am currently starting a research paper for my school and I have chosen to answer this question using the collective responses of people in political sites. I plan to post the same message on other sites and get a good sample size of responses to base my paper off of.
