I light of the Johnny Depp's case. It seems like the the idea of men being victims of domestic violence is finally getting some attention. In a domestic dispute situation men are often assumed to be the aggressors. If the police gets called to a domestic dispute, chances are the guy is going to get automatically arrested. I feel like this is a bias that often keeps men from calling seeking help when they must.

I have lived this first hand. My ex was physically aggressive. She did everything from punching me to trying to stab me. The time she tried to stab me I had grab the knife with my bare hand which resulted in a deep laceration to my thumb. As I am laying there bleeding, applying pressure on one hand with the other, she hysterically calls 911. Screaming at the operator she admits "my husband is bleeding" "we were arguing" "I had the knife." Even then the 911 operator automatically assumed that she was the one getting beat. What's worse is that even I counseled her not to tell the police what had happened. I didn't want her to get arrested. I did not understand the true severity of the situation at the time. I was a victim of domestic violence.

I am writing this in case there are other men in this situation. Understand that women can be aggressors of domestic violence. Get prepared about what to do. Document everything. Get out of this situations. Violent women can be deadly.
