I will explain what the reason for the Canadian Forces one is. It’s a bit misleading the way the article explains it.

So there used to be a system (isn’t anymore) where Employment Equity (EE) groups would be identified before enrolment. when a person enrols into CAF and does things like aptitude test, interview, shows education credentials, shows past work experience, personality assessment test, trade fit assessment etc. whatever other ranking system they use they get a certain amount of points for suitability. This is gender blind. The points all go into a spreadsheet and recruiters pick from the top.

If they encounter the same number of points but a person is EE, they take the EE person.

EE is not just woman. Search up the Employment Equity Act so you can see the 4 groups.

In cases with trade that take a few amount of people what ends up happening is something like this:

You have 3 spots available. There are 5 people with 90 points which is highest of all the other number of points. 3 of the people are EE. Those 3 EE will get the spots.

Say you have 3 spots. And 5 people with the same number of top points with 2 being EE. Who gets the job is 2 EE and randomly they could be pulling out of a hat for the 1 non-EE.

It’s possible that for jobs like Intelligence Officer (very competitive) it will look like only women are getting hired because they are indeed an EE and they would be competing at the top number of points. Though you might as well argue only aboriginals could be hired or only visible minority. since there is no differentiating between the types of EE.

Important thing is though they won’t be hiring just any EE regardless of points. It’s like “when all else equal, pick EE”.

I suggest you do research into the concept if you want to do advocacy work. Going directly to the prime minster is a far stretch but there are ways to get through what you wish to do by other means.
