Was hanging out with some friends, potential plate sits next to me, knee touching mine, and asks for a lighter. I hesitate and say that I might have one. Shit test failed, because she gets up before I even get the lighter from my pocket.
I didn't offer her the lighter, just held it hidden and waited for her to ask again (I was trying to recover with "say the magic words").
She just whips her own lighter out, showing me she was bullshitting/testing.
I don't say anything, just return the lighter to my pocket and continue chatting with other friends. Later on, she asks for a cigarette and I don't acknowledge her. I can tell she's still mildly attracted because she is acting out trying to get my attention and being bubbly. I get the upper hand by asking a favor or two (give me water, roll your joint for me), but she never sits next to me again. I hold frame for the rest of the evening and soft next her by leaving early. She feels me up during our goodbye.
I can't help but wonder if failures like this are recoverable. It feels like I've showed a little provider BB by saying I had a lighter, even though I didn't give it to her and had a follow up ready. What does asktrp think?
