I believe that there are more attractive women than men due primarily to differences in the sexual attraction between the genders and body fat distribution. This is a hypothesis.
We know that the average man weighs approximately 30 pounds more now than he did in the 1960s. The average woman also weights the same amount more. However due to differences in what each gender finds attractive this 30 pounds has had differing effects on each gender.
Women often gravitate towards men who possess a v taper. They also don't prefer overly muscular men. Now with the 30 pound weight gain we have seen, most men store that fat in there stomach and legs. This automatically disrupts the v taper creating a more unattractive appearance. The men who can manage to maintain a v tapper while 30 pounds heavier are often very burly which women also do not prefer as much.
For women this 30 pounds first distributed itself to there thighs boobs and hips creating a curvier look which many men prefer. So for a reasonable percentage of women, weight gain actually made them more attractive to the opposite sex. However some people have overshot this sweet spot and are just obese.
So due to these differences in body fat percentage I believe there are more attractive women than men strickly at the physique level. This has also greatly been influenced by the media. The optimal woman today weighs more than the optimal woman of the past due to the focus placed on curviness. We have seen these changes affect pornography and over all fitness amoung women.
However the optimal man of today weighs about the same as the optimal man of the past but is more muscular. Think of Zach Efron vs Steve Mcqueen.
So let's say 25 percent of women are optimal bodywise vs 15 percent of men.
This is all hypothetically so let me know if I am wrong.
