If they think it’s demeaning and sexist to be in the sex industry, then they’re gonna have to tell people like professional sports players, comic artists, novelists, and professional gamers to get out too. Maybe it’s because currently a massive part of the porn industry consists of human trafficking , coercion, exploitation of minors and is overall not consensual in many situations. Plus it is often near impossible to leave due to threats or dependence. Same goes for for men and boys, they too get exploited by the porn industry. The point is not to shame people for doing sex work but to help those who can’t leave and boycott the current system. I don’t see how this affects men negatively or is a negative aspect of feminism

I’m sorry that as an English tutor it frustrates the Hell out of me to see so many grammatical mistakes, but just ignoring that for the time being, I can’t believe that people who are self-proclaimed feminists never stop contradicting themselves about sex work.

It’s a basic concept: Someone either chooses a profession voluntarily or they don’t. This isn’t rocket science. The stupid argument “they were forced into prostitution” wasn’t true for most women in the sex industry during most of the history of the Feminist Movement in America, but if it was ever true before at some point, it is certainly less so now. There is no doubt at all that SOME women choose to go into the porn industry or the prostitution industry, without coercion. Without any doubt there were women forced into prostitution in the time of Attila the Hun, or Ganghis Khan, but in the modern world, that isn’t a thing in MOST cases in this society. It DOES happen, and I’m not denying there are Epsteins and sex traffickers, but that isn’t the MAJORITY of prostitution. Even the victims of Epstein admit they freely chose to come back to his house for the money repeatedly. Yes, they were generally poor and victims of sex abuse, but we don’t say women are coerced into working at MacDonalds because they were poor and they went there to get a job. Why is sex work different?

Let’s take a moment and define our terms: Coercion doesn’t include the fact that the society you live in will pay you for something. It’s not coercion that you had to get a job as a short order chef because there were no waitressing jobs available. That’s just a matter of what jobs were opened and needing to be filled. You have the opportunity to take jobs when they are available and you can’t claim you were forced when you decide to fulfill a societal need by taking a job. If people will pay you for sex, and you choose to accept money for sex, then that isn’t coercion. It’s just being a capitalist.

For over a generation now, women have been able to support themselves by not working and just applying for Government Assistance and I know many women who do exactly that. Let’s quit the bullshit that women are “forced” to prostitute themselves because otherwise they or their children will starve. That isn’t happening, period.

Let’s say for the sake of argument I’m wrong in my assertions above…then at least let’s agree that the problem of women being “forced into prostitution” is at least NOT for lack of free women’s shelters and government programs and every other kind of government assistance that can be offered.

Having established that women are generally NOT forced into prostitution, let’s also admit that it’s a fact that there are women who promote themselves as prostitutes and who work as sex workers or pornographic actresses, and are proud of this fact. They write books about it. You can call them all liars, but it doesn’t mean your perspective is factual. I have serious doubts that every woman who has said she chose a profession in the sex industry is a liar.

Therefore, whatever idiotic crap is being peddled by feminists about all women who are involved in sex work being coerced or being forced by society to be involved in this work is clearly just because they are tired of having women prove their theories wrong over and over and they want to discredit them. Women discrediting other women is absolutely not what feminism is supposed to be about, but it’s obvious that they are hypocrites and that is why they continue to oppose women choosing to be involved in the sex industry.

The “Standard Narrative” now IS the Feminist Narrative. Nearly everyone here grew up with the Feminist Narrative repeated endlessly wherever they went, in media, by Government, in school, etc. If you grew up in THIS country (I am assuming most people in this sub are from the United States, along with some Europeans), you most likely didn’t grow up thinking that women are expected to be sexually submissive to men’s needs. Go ahead and tell me if I’m wrong, but I know that this was MY experience. I was never presented with the “women are inferior” narrative in my life.
